I remember the outhouse at my grandparents farm. We used the pages from last year's Sears catalog for toilet paper. One year all their kids chipped in and built a bathroom in the house. Awhile later on the 4th of July the family got together for a picnic with outdoor cooking. My grandfather said "I remember when we cooked in the house and $&!+ outside."

We did something similar- Matchbook Rockets

Rather than re-invent the wheel, below is a link that will explain the whole process.

How to Make a Matchbook Rocket

We sometimes set them off in the basement of the house, but no one smoked in our house, so it usually wasn’t long before someone would made us stop because of the smell from all the burnt matches.

I loved my Erector set! Came in a metal chest and had an all metal A/C motor with a gearbox. Got my finger caught in the dang thing, was home alone and had to turn the motor shaft backwards by hand for an hour (well, it seemed like an hour) to get my finger free. No real damage, just hurt like the dickens and was a bit blue for a few days.
My chemistry set had many bottles of God knows what in it. If I poured it in the Mississippi in St. Louis it’d probably kill all the fish from there to New Orleans.

I just sold my pretty pristine 8 1/2 Erector Set to a older gentleman who wanted to give it to his wife for Christmas. She had told him that her parents wouldn't let her have one because she was a girl. My, how times have changed in 50-60 or so years.

Another mentioned a chemistry set - I think mine actually had cyanide in it or at least something lethal. My parents threw mine away after I mixed gunpowder even though I couldn't make it explode, only flash and make lots of smoke.

You ought to wonder when you move 100 miles away and have the same milkman

I remember when cars and trucks were painted attractive colors. All I see is black, white. and silver anymore.

Now I can't remember if I remembered or saw it in a picture....

Are you of the age when MoPar painted cars in triple color schemes, circa 1955? Many were rally gaudy with pinks and purples - and sometimes on the same car.

As a note - our three vehicles are bronze over gold (my truck), red (our Escape and Grabber Orange (my '31 Ford street rod)

We have reached the metallic age. Silver in our hair. Iron in our blood. Gold in our teeth. Lead in our butts.

.

I sure am. My father was a car dealer for many decades. He sold Nash, REO, Crosley, and GM later in the early '70s. He sold the business to my brother in the mid '80s and retired. No better feeling than riding in a pink Lincoln!

It must be money thing, but they could do better offering some prettier color options. Some of the dealer's lots look so boring, I don't have any desire to pull in. Just me I guess.

Nope, not just you. Most of the younger guys I worked with just love black vehicles.
Not really a money thing for carmakers, red is a bit more expensive and some special colors, (ones that contain zyrilic, the same glittery stuff on money) cost more, but now for gm anyhow it's an upcharge. When I was truck shopping pre -pandemic you had white, silver, and the other "colors" that all look black unless they were in bright light. I ended up with silver, at least it highlights the body lines.

How about that semi gloss gray that looks like someone forgot to put the clear coat on it.

When I look around town, I wonder if the people really wanted the color they bought, or if that's all that was available on the lot at the time. There are indeed a lot of black cars and truck around here.

My two previous trucks were versions of red. When I went to get a newer one, the only one on the lot with a 6 1/2' box was......white. I bought it anyway and put a bunch of red pin stripe on it and the cap to break up the white.
