Plus, got lots of "free" stuff like glassware, silverware, and S&H Green Stamps. The days of pulling into a station and saying "I'll take two dollars worth of ethyl and a quart of 30 weight" are history....

I remember walking out of the grocery store with a very full bag of food, and it was only $20, maybe less with a few coupons clipped from the newspaper that week.

I'm so old...

I remember Cooks department store, Topps, Two Guys and Korvettes. Woolworths and penny pretzel sticks at the local drug store. Ya know, where mom went to get mercurochrome.

I drove cross country before the interstates were completed. Now, after driving an 18 wheeler for 45 years, I prefer to drive on the skinny roads.

I remember when we could have a civil discussion about virtually any issue. I was always taught to seek out those with whom I disagreed as that was the best education vehicle around.

My parents idea was a vacation was two weeks of hard driving. Non stop. Look at the scenery as we went by. Also, the three of us kids got bored and fussed. To which our father driving 70 mph, would reach behind and started beating us. We scrambled into the real of the station wagon to get out of reach

I remember when Jerry Lewis, Carol Burnett, Lucy, Curly Howard, Jonathon Winters, Tim Conway, Deputy Fife with his one bullit, and shows like Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, F Troop, All In The Family, The Jefferson's, could make you really laugh, really hard.

If you want to watch them now plus Rawhide, Bonanza, Wagon Train, etc. Put up your antenna, program your TV and watch the MeTV channel, and similar.

I am old enough to remember dirt roads around the camp grounds, not pavement and toilets without running water. They were just holes in the ground with a toilet seat on the end of a culvert.

Evey fall my mother went to the garden, which was about 3 acres and collect tomatoes, corn, pears, peaces, green beans, and more. Then she would go into the basement and collect a bunch of Mason jars and can all of the produce. It took her several weeks of cutting, putting into jars, adding water and boiling the produce filled jars, tightening the lids, and letting them cool. Afterwards she checked the lids to verify vacuum sealing. My favorites were tomatoes and pears
We ate from those jars the rest of the year. It's a shame we don't do that now with most of the canned goods use BPA lined cans. We had a cow, chickens, ]>gs, and shot or caught meat and fish. Anybody else remember those simpler and healthier times? BTW I grew up on whole unpasteurized milk and butter.

Old Stuff at Wal Mart

I was at Wal Mart the other day. I found Barnum's animal crackers in the little red box with the handle, One of the Reese's candy bars has crunchy peanut butter in it. They also have a turkey hat for Thanksgiving.
