Lol I must be a lot older than you. I remember paying 38.9 a gallon. 5 bucks in my '73 Chevy Impala would give me half a tank!

I remember 17 cent gas in the 50's. Then there were gas wars where to get more customers they dropped the price to a nickel. Everybody topped off their tanks daily because we knew the price would go back up.

How about when filling stations used to give you S&H Green Stamps, Top Value Stamps or some other line of trading stamp.

I remember when white wall tires were standard. Many would not buy a black wall tire.

I still have a Model T coil. Inherited from dad so that is cheating, but I know what one is.

I wonder how many of us remember what "Three on the Tree" means. Grumpy's picture reminded me of that as I had a 65 then 68 Mustang (3 and then 4 on the floor) but prior to the Mustangs I had a 61 Falcon with three on the tree. ~CA

I had three on the tree or 3 speed on the column for the less informed on my first truck, a 77 Ford F100 with a straight six banger. I could only imagine some one today getting in that truck and wondering how you put it in drive.

I had a 3 on the tree in my 64 Econoline van but I actually had a 4 speed on the column in an old Renault R16. That was different for sure...

Friend of mine had a Ford Falcon with a 3 on the tree. The shift linkage on the steering column would get jamed. My dad just poked with a screwdriver and freed i up. We were back on the road!

My Corvair was a 4 on the floor....used it to pull a Nimrod camper from Ohio to DC with a couple college buddies.

Add me to that list of “three on a tree” owners. My first car was a 1964 Ford Fairlane 4 door sedan. It was a real “Sally Rand” (how many know that term?). Power nothing, no A/C, not even an AM radio. However, it had three unusual options that you normally wouldn’t find on a stripped down car like that: back-up lights, a 260 C.I. V-8 engine and an equa lock differential. The car would eat 327 V-8 Chevys with Powerglide for lunch.

My first car was a 65 Ford Galaxie with an automatic and a 289 for $250. Then I had to put tires, brakes, muffler, oil change, wipers, tune-up including plugs,, points, condenser, Cap, and rotor. It was 6 years old and I was 21. I worked on cars at gas stations and garages primarily doing brakes, waterpumps, U-joints, mufflers, tune-up, etc. Drove it til 73 after I got my MS, went to work and bought a 73 vetted, 350 with a 4 speed. What a ride.

My 61 Falcon had a straight 6, not very powerful. However, it was always dangerous to try to accelerate much when it was raining, not because of too much power, but because the windshield wipers would quit working. lol ~CA
