One day in the courtroom...

[Murff]

A defense attorney was cross examining a police officer in a felony trial and was trying to undermine the officer's credibility. "Officer, did you see my client fleeing from the scene", asks the lawyer?

"No sir, I did not", replied the officer. "But, I did see a person matching the description of the offender running several blocks away from the scene."

The attorney asks, "who provided the description of the offender?"

"The officer who responded to the scene of the felony", replies the cop.

"So, a fellow officer provided the description of the so called offender", the attorney queries? "Do you trust your fellow officers?"

"Yes sir, I do, with my life!"

"With your life? Let me ask you this then, officer. Do you have a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties", asks the lawyer?

"Yes sir, we have a locker room for that purpose."

The attorney than asks, "do you have a locker in that locker room?"

"Yes sir, I do."

"And, do you have a lock on that locker?"

"Yes, I do have a lock on my locker", replies the cop

"Now why is it officer, if you trust your fellow officers with your very life, you find it necessary to put a lock on your locker in a room that you share with your fellow officers", asks the lawyer now looking very smug with his question?

The officer looks the attorney straight in his eyes and says, "well sir, we share the building with the court complex. And lawyers are known to walk through that room."

The court room then exploded with laughter and judge called a prompt recess.
