For many parts of the USA, this is a thing of the past now. I spent the afternoon at the Toyota dealership a couple of weeks back and spoke to the Sales Manager who told me that most all of the dealerships in all but the large city's are lucky to have one of each model on the showroom, and that are NOT allowing test drives like they used to. Since they can't get any inventory to fill their lots, they are only taking purchase orders for vehicles that are allotted to the dealership, and they say that 95% of every vehicle that gets delivered is already sold before it gets there.
The only cars/trucks on the lot are used/trade-in's or vehicle in for Service.
