I worked for a forklift dealer for 8 years in Seattle. One of the funniest things to happen was on a shipping pier when a longshoreman forklift operator lost one over the edge of a dock one night. The shipping company hired a professional diver to go in the water to find the forklift.

The diver went in and resurfaced after a few minutes. He pulled off his mask and yelled up to managers that were watching him from the pier and asked, "which one is yours?"

Yup, there was more than one in the drink!

I was delivering 5 55 gallon barrels of flammable solvent to a business. I backed my pickup to the dock and dropped my tailgate.

As I was wrestling the barrels off a guy in a fork lift showed up and told me to get out of the way. He then drove on to the back of the F150 which promptly dropped a foot and speared 3 barrels near the bottom of each.

I stepped back about 50 feet and watched the next two hours as they got a crane to lift the fork off the truck, a cleanup crew to clean up the spill and my boss to get there to yell at everyone for breaking his truck. He didn't yell at me as the fork driver was honest and said he was the cause of the accident.

Luckily no fire or anyone hurt.

Yeah, that is hilarious. Many years ago I drove forklift for a living. In the certification training videos they showed some forklift accidents. One was a fork truck making a sharp turn on a dock and missing the turn, went right into the drink. I think this is more common than many people might realize.

What I wonder about your story is did that company think someone had stolen a fork truck? And it was in the water the whole time!

I work in dispatch for a trucking company. One day, one of our drivers called in and said she was driving down the highway when someone came up beside her and flagged her down. She couldn't hear what they were saying, but they were pointing excitedly at the side of her truck.

She pulls over to see what the problem was. Apparently, at her last fuel stop, she neglected to put the nozzle back in the holder. She fuelled up, went inside to get some food, and came back and drove away. She had pulled the hose free from the pump and had dragged it 20 miles down the road.

She asked what should she do. In between peals of laughter, my supervisor told her she has to go back to the truck stop and explain what happened. We still won't let her live it down.

Head over to Youtube and look up "Forklift Driver Klaus". A German video about safety.
