Not a real ad, but the company did think it was pretty funny when they saw it. I don't think they would gotten away it the early '60s. Maybe in the '70s or '80s...

I think the real question is, what ever happened to WD-1 through WD-39?

Same applies to Preparation H. What about Preparation A-G????

They came up with an improved formulation and were going to call it Preparation I but were worried that people might apply it to the wrong part of the anatomy...

Its WD-40 because the 1-39 Didnt work for the need. it was the 40th formula that did what was needed. Water Displacement for the aerospace industry

Early in my career I worked for the local electric co. We got several trade mags that were circulated. Saw one with an advert for a coating for wood poles. Touted weather proofing, blah, blah, and discourages woodpeckers ‘cause “it dulls their peckers”.
