A little good news

We had a really nice experience last night and I'd like to share some good news. Picked up wife from airport. Late, hungry. We stopped in a small chain restaurant.

Sign on door says "Help Wanted - Servers, Hostesses, Cooks" and a few others. Looking in the window, only 10-12 people in so we took our chances.

Service was slow - but Jasmine was the only server in the place. The hostess had made the decision to show some leadership and was in the kitchen helping to cook.

Both ladies kept their cool, never let the stress show. They worked hard, kept us all informed.

Sure - we waited almost 60 minutes for what should have been done in 20, but those two were magnificent. No one got angry. As we left, we noticed a six-top table had left Jasmine a $100 tip. I couldn't go that high, but I tried to leave one big enough so they both knew how much we appreciated their professionalism.

It's not all bad out there.

Thanks for sharing this pconroy.

Some of these servers are also doing other jobs as well like bussing tables, hostess, answering the phone, bartending, dish washing etc. plus some are working double shifts.

Please be patient and show your appreciation with a generous tip. They do deserve it!

We have a short list of local small restaurants in our community that are all struggling, they lost money during the Covid year to closures, then take out only and now that they can open in our area they can't get staffing.

Most all of them have a special on one night of the week and we eat out about 3 times a week and make sure we express our appreciation with good words and good tips!

There is a Burger King and Jack in the Box here in town that can't keep their dining rooms open because they don't have enough workers. Drive thru only.

People get enough "Free Money" and don't need to work.

Good to hear you were nice enough to wait it out...

No it's not all bad here either. A local restaurant sold out to one of the waitresses just as the virus hit. She survived on take out orders until she could open at the 50% level. The village was great support, and kept her from losing the business. We still eat there frequently, and wonder if it's too often when all the waitresses know you by name!

Oh yeah, we get that at Sunday morning breakfast there. "A number 13, scrambled, home fries, Texas toast and deep fried bacon?? Yes please ma'am."

Better still is when they start your order when you're still parking the car!

That's cool. We just had a similar experience on the way back from Denver yesterday. We stopped into a chain restaurant, too, and we overheard the waitress say, "Well, three of the wait staff already called in today." It wasn't overly busy, but busy none-the-less. We were sure to reward the waitress for her working harder to take care of so many people.

In our travels we saw a locally owned Burger King with a huge sign: "Now hiring, $18.00 per hour". I can't imagine not being able to get help at those wages. Our government has succeeded in destroying small businesses
