Yeah, things have changed a bit. My parents and most other kids' parents didn't have a $50,000 SUV sitting in the driveway. My Dad was a grain farmer, but never did own a "pickup". He lived in town, and drove our car 16 miles every work day to his farm. He would fall over backwards today if he saw my yard with two Suburbans, a Q-cab pickup and a Mercury Gran Marquis.

Greetings all!

I'm a new forum member. Lee pointed me in the direction of the Scouters Campfire. My most important role in scouting to date is being a proud parent of a rising WEBELOS. Our son started as a Tiger.

I have had some other involvement as well:
1974 Arrow of Light
1978 Eagle, Troop 7, FUMC-Gastonia, Piedmont Council, Gastonia, NC
1979-1982 Explorer Scout
1980 Sea Explorer National Sailing Championships, Marina Del Rey, CA
1981 Sea Explorer National Sailing Championships, "new" High Adventure Sea Base, Islamorada, FL
2004-2006 ACMA (American Composites Manufacturers Association)/BSA Composites Merit Badge Steering Committee
2008-current Pack Committee
2008-current District Committee
2010 Alleghany District Award of Merit, Old Hickory Council
12/2010-present Toe River District Eagle Scout Board of Review, Daniel Boone Council

Celebrating the Adventure and Continuing the Journey

Yours in Scouting,
Scott

Rivermaster, I see a Silver Beaver award in your future! Great Scouting history. As you can see there are a bunch of Scouters here and the list continues to grow.

Good morning happy campers,

The 314BHDS will be the infirmary/mother ship for our rising WEBELOS first hike-in campout this weekend. The boys, leaders and parents are really excited about getting out for some "primitive" camping. The TT will only be about 1/4 mile from the camp site, but the boys will never know it is there if all goes well.

We're using a facility owned by the former textile giant Springs Industries called Springmaid Mountain near Spruce Pine, NC. The TT will be in the small family campground on the property which has managed to stay below the campgroundreviews.com radar.

We currently have 30 participants signed up as of last night. Wish us well.

-Scott

Our troop including my soon to be 11 yr old son is leaving for Summer Camp Sunday. He`s taking the new Scout course and 3 merit badges.

Did your troop go to Ottari this year? Nice place.

Sounds like you have a great outing planned. Kudos to you for keeping the TT out of the picture!

Hope you have a great week. We went to Ottari and had scouts in five programs; the Brownsea Island program for new scouts, base camp for merit badges, Mountain Man, New River Adventure and a scout at the Claytor Lake Aquatics Base who took scuba. All in all it was a really good week.

Which camp will you be attending?

I was a cub when I was a kid. My son was a cub than a scout. I've camped with his scout group on several occasions. I remember going to Fire Mountain in Wa. State , 1200 scouts from all over the north west. My daughter was a girl guide. She wore a scarf given to her from gramma who got it from guides in England. She came to Canada on the Queen Mary during the war. She was just a teen than. My kids enjoyed camping with the scouts and guides. It sure toughened them up during the winter camps.

I know I'm a little late to this discussion, but I was a scout, Cubscout first (Bobcat and wolf...never made it to the Bear). Then, like Healthi, I was a Law Enforcement Explorer Scout (Post # 361). We would help the police officers at rodeo events, directing traffic at accidents, and every great now and then get to go on "ride alongs" with the officers. Our great reward, twice a year, was to go camping at one of the local state parks for a week...which did get interesting since we were a "co-ed" Troop! There was swimming with the gators one time, then another time swimming in Lake Livingston in the middle of February when it was only like 34 degrees outside...oh those were the days. I'm looking foward to getting my son started in the scouting tradition fairly soon...he already loves camping and fishing...think he'll love it!!!

He will love it, and you can start him out when he`s in first grade as a Tiger Cub Scout.

Was a scout in the late 50's early 60's. Became an adult leader in 1976 (Cubmaster). Have served as a Scoutmaster and Explorer Leader for some time and district & council positions. After retirement from the military in 1990 became a professional Scouter for 19years. Retired from BSA a couple years ago. Still active in the OA and currently the Council Venturing Chairman. Also do NRA training and shooting sports for the council.
Two Eagle Scout son's and grandson working on Eagle.
Sleeping on the ground and in a tent has taken it's toll. Have given that up.
