^&*((*& Spiders

Part of my monthly routine the 1st of every month besides running the generator under load for one hour and switching the water heater to propane for at least one shower or load of laundry is switching the Norcold to propane for several hours or even over night to make sure it is working when needed. It wouldn't light on propane when I tried it the other day and I just got around to working on it this morning.

Turned it off completely, then a couple of quick blasts of compressed air on the burner area and it now lights up with a clean blue flame again.

Please note the Title line of this post.

Yep! I had them in my water heater earlier this year.

I was out camping in October, and a fellow camper across the way was trying to manually light his refrigerator (older PU) and could not get it lite. After an hour or so, I stopped over with a can of compressed air, and blow out the burner assembly. It lite right up.

Spiders use to be a problem for me when I was a PUP owner. They loved to block the pilot tube and prevented you from lighting the furnace. Never had a spider issue in the TT but now its mud wasps. Those little B&(*&eds can block a nail hole or a 1" drain pipe. Have screens over the furnace exhaust port and routinely inspect behind the water heater door. They get in the awning roll and support arms, under the propane tank cover and you name it.

At hunt camp I had issue with Lady bugs in my PUP. Millions of em everywhere. 2 hours with a shop vac and thought I got em all. Nope, month later I go back in it and there are more.

Not sure if it really works or just coincidence. I have a baby food jar filled with moth crystals with holes in the lid. It’s velcroed behind the fridge. Never seen any spiders or critters back there. Stole that idea from someone years ago and it seems to work.

I have never had a mud wasp issue. Interestingly I think I have a mud wasp nest on the side of my small garage. I have been watching it all summer, and have not see any action. It is fully sealed.

I spray "Home Defense Max" around all openings after I had issue with spiders. It works great and its supposed to work for up to a year, but I do it with my monthly stuff. The pilot area I spray on a rag and wipe all over the cover and holes and has worked marvelously!

Suspect it is a regional thing. Never had them when we lived in IN. Now in KY/Tn and if there is a hole they will fill it. The waterpump drain tube on an outboard motor is a favorite for the mud wasp. Unless you cover it during storage, the drain tube will be packed with mud the next time you put it in the water. Don't have problems with spiders though. If its not one pest it is another. Well don't forget the ever popular mouse.
