Anyone using turn signals anymore?

Is it just me or is use of the turn signal becoming a dying art? It seems more and more folks are not using them which can be quite the irritation.

I think for some cell phone use has become more important then actuating a turn signal.

I use my turn signal because I like the red arrow in the exterior rear view mirror; it looks real pretty blinking, and it gives me something nice to look at instead of all those other cars and that plain roadway surface.... At least, that is what I why some people use turn signals.

I'm a believer in turn signals. They let the other guy know what your intentions are and he'll maybe look out for you.

Course, another problem as mentioned already is having them on with no intention of a turn. I never base a driving decision on what another driver's turn signal is doing.

It seems like I see a lot of driving errors, and not using turn signals is one of the more frequently seen.

I am a true believer in turn-signals. Here in Florida probably only 25% of right turners use them, but a majority of left turners use them. One aggravating thing I have noticed here in Florida, is when you are in a center lane and want to change lanes either way, if you use your turn signal any cars in the other lane will automatically speed up and try not to let you in. Hence, if I have room I start to accelerate and put the turn signal on while accelerating. I give up on cell phone users.

(3) things of late have re-shaped my thinking regarding the disciplined use of turn signals....1) My last few vehicles have a feature that with a slight bump of the turn signal stalk - the turn signal will blink three times and automatically stop. Convenient for changing lanes in moving traffic....2) I've been teaching a teenager to drive.....3) Towing more

Otherwise....I would probably count myself in the masses of the "unwashed"....

I don't think they are standard equipment anymore, must now be an "option" that costs extra. At least that's my belief since about 95% of vehicles no longer seem to have any!!

What, you use turn indicators? With California's aggressive driving requirements that's just considered alerting the enemy to your next move

I not only use modern electric turn signals, but also still remember how to give hand turn signals. You know - the ones where you stick your arm out the window and either raise it for right, straight out for left, or down for slowing down. I have a couple of Model T Fords that didn't come with even optional signals, so that is the only choice. Trouble is - most young folks today think you're waving at them when you do that. And those who can't possibly drive without being in constant phone contact with their therapist or somebody, really don't seem to care at all . . . . .

I have a CDL, so I always use turn signals.
It would be an embarrassment to get a ticket for non-use.

I use hand signals while on bike, but like previous poster stated I don't think many people understand them.

98% of people here only turn on their signals AFTER they started their turn..

Most people don't bother to signal but then make up for it by leaving their blinker on for several kilometers on a straight road to average it out. Kind of a turn signal credit like planting a tree for your carbon footprint.

After spending 32 years in a Driver Education program I always use the turn signals. You can't wear them out.

Seems like a turn signal in Utah is just the pre-cursor to you being cut off.

In SE Wisconsin where I live most people still use their signal lights. We were in KY a few weeks ago. Hardly anyone there uses them.

While I have always used them I have noticed that I'm prone to only using it to indicate I about to pass a slower vehicle and then I forget to use them when returning back to a right hand lane. Wonder why? Not that I'm pulling a 30' trailer I am super aware of using my turn signals since my TT & TV take up several car lengths.

I laugh when I see someone driving for miles with their left turn signal on eventually make a right hand turn and still dont turn on their right signal...makes me wonder how they got in that perdiciment in the first place.....

I too have a CDL and always use them regardless of the conditions or move. I think some people think that the turn signal is strictly for use when at a stop sign or left turns into oncoming traffic. Maybe it's a rental and they just turned on the wipers

I still use hand signals too and use them quite often when someone does not use theirs. It's usually the one that indicates they should return to the middle lane!

No turn signal is a peeve of mine and drives me nuts.

I still go to the back of my trailer before every departure to check they work.

Now merging...that's a whole other issue...

It seems that here in B.C. Turn signals and stop signs have become optional. I don't know how I missed the memo?
