That's our favorite. 4 miles from home. There are 3 others but none as good or convenient.

I absolutely agree in that 4wd doesn’t help in stopping or turning, but grip and acceleration are also key in snow in my area. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to go around folks that are stuck trying to navigate the hills in my area with fwd or rwd.

My wife had a rwd Volvo S70 followed by a fwd Volvo S70, both of which were ok in the snow until it came to hilly terrain. Volvo’s are built for in-climate weather, that’s for sure. I had to rescue her more than once trying to get home on the steep grades in my area.

She now drives a Volvo S60 AWD and the difference is night and day in the hills of central Massachusetts.

Just remember 4 wd does not make you stop faster.
I prefer my old 2wd truck. It did well with something called real snow tires
I know Worcester gets lots of snow and it’s usually crappier than our Maine snow. I’ve been able to get home from work before the plows did our road. They usually wait till there is a foot
For me the defining measurement is how steep is your driveway! Ours is flat and running starts work well

That said I am wondering how our TT is doing outside at the dealers in this subzero cold. It’s winterized

My little Subaru Outback will go anywhere as long as the snow isn't more than 10'' deep.

Yes 4wd does nothing when it comes to stopping.

I’m wondering how our TT is doing also. It’s 130 miles away in Brewster down the Cape. I checked on it a few weeks ago while visiting my sister in Barnstable and it was fine.

I have the CG do my closing and when I checked it, I saw plenty of pink stuff in the sinks and ice maker. They got 4-5” compared to the 16.8” we got here in Worcester last Thursday. The 70-80mph gusts had me concerned too! I haven’t received any phone calls so I imagine it’s still upright! Lol!

Stay warm!!

Loco

You sound just like my father. He commuted over 100 miles a day for the 41 years that he worked. Every one of those miles was in a 2 wheel drive truck. He used to pride himself in how far he could make it before he would have to put chains on etc. He would buy a fresh set of studded snow tires every fall and just loved his 2wd. That all ended when he was about 69 or 70 when he hurt himself putting chains on to get up the last set of hills before their house. For the last 4 or 5 years now he has a 4x4. He tells me all the time how he likes it, but that he still misses his old trucks.

Back in the 70’s when I started driving, most cars were American rwd models. Fwd’s were just coming around. We did ok driving our big old rwd Pontiacs, Chrysler’s and Ford’s. It wasn’t until the 90’s when I bought my first 4x4 truck.

JICP is one of our all-time favorite campgrounds. Great location near Folly Beach and Charleston. Great amenities within the park. Nice size spots with mature trees and a decent amount of privacy. Unfortunately its about 600 miles from our house...

I guess I should clarify. I run it in 4 hi so it doesn't sit there and constantly spin. 800 foot-pounds of torque make that traction control light flash on-off all the time. 4 hi takes care of that.

Last evening it was 63 and I was running the AC on the way home. By tonight we have a winter storm coming and it will be a single digit high on Sunday.

In Indiana if you don't like the weather, wait an hour. Last night it went from 61* to 29* in a short period of time. Winter storm warnings now.
