Chickens Like Jayco Too

OK, before I start, I know. It's a rooster. But roosters are chickens. Hens are chickens too.

In another post I mentioned that I'm boondocking here at Sam Houston National Forest. I'm in a fairly remote location, the only one here at the camping area, actually.

So here I am, a pair of smoked sausages on a stick, slowly cooking them over a fire of downed limbs I got going. When all of a sudden I hear...

Cluck Cluck Cluck

I look over and there's a damm rooster pecking around my trailer! Cool looking bird, with a feathery top knot. And out here in the middle of a National Forest!

He wanders around my trailer, then goes up the steps. He even tries to get in the door!

At one point the rooster lights on top of my little Weber grill. Oh, if he only knew how many of his family members were cooked in there, he'd steer clear of that contraption. And you never know. He might end up in there himself. Seriously.

The poor chicken was looking for a place to roost. It was starting to get dark, and he needed to find a safe place to stay for the night. I wasn't about to let him inside the trailer, but I did try to accommodate him.

I opened up the front storage door and made a space for him in there, but he never took the hint. All he wanted to do was go in my trailer front door or the large escape window in the back, where the bunk beds are.

He ended up trying to fly up and land on top of my bigger Weber, making all kinds of noise. Then he just disappeared, off into the woods I guess.

I hope he doesn't end up as coyote crap tomorrow. He'd be better off ending up in my black holding tank. :hihi:

He would fit right in with my pet roos. The black one, Erskine, will jump up in my lap or on my shoulder. We also have 11 hens. -Lee

If that bird is living wild I bet he is tougher than a chunk of wood.

My guess is he just recently flew the coop. There's a road a mile or two over that is rural residential, and I bet he wandered off. It was pretty strange. He'd strut up within touching distance of me, so he's evidently accustomed to people. And the way he was trying to get into my trailer, well, I could tell he's used to going into a chicken house every night.

I think he was just lost.

Here's another picture I took when he tried real hard to get in the door. Look up at the top and you can see his foot. He thought he could grab hold of the center screen door rail, but the screen (he couldn't see it, I guess) was in his way.

Haven't seen him yet this morning. I'll keep you posted with the Sam Houston National Forest Rooster Report.

I couldn't quit laughing about a Seinfeld episode when I read this --

"You have the rooster, the hen, and the chicken. The rooster goes with the chicken... So who's having sex with the hen? " - Frank Costanza

Let me know if you figure it out with your new chicken experience!

If that chicken is after the Bud then he could be a candidate for the chicken beer cooker.
