Christmas Music....

......Started today at Noon on SiriusXM. Channel 3 is Holiday Traditions and Channel 4 is Holly.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas music. But does anyone else think Nov 1 is just a tad bit early for this to start?

When we were in South Carolina at the end of July, we stopped in a Cracker Barrel for lunch. They had Halloween items all through the store. I thought that was very early also. Apparently Nov 1 must be the new official start of the Christmas retail season.

I really don't get into listening Christmas music until about the 20th of December. That's the time for me to get things ready, decorate the house, set up the tree, tie up all the loose ends and then really enjoy the Christmas season for just a few days. It's brings me peace and good cheer and I really enjoy it. I'm a simpleton, just the way I'm built.

But what really annoys me about these radio stations starting Christmas music on November 1st is that most stop playing Christmas music at 6:00pm on Christmas night. To me, one of the most enjoyable time is the evening of Christmas when the kids are tuckered and in bed, a glass of wine with my wife and just relaxing with a fire in the fireplace reflecting on the day and counting our blessings.

Thank God for my Ipod!

Early November is way too early for Christmas music. My wife will listen to it on XM occasionally this early on but not when I'm in the car with her.

On a similar note, we just put up some Christmas decorations on the utility poles in my small town. All of the antique stores in my town are having a "Christmas sale" and asked we put them up. We will take them down again in a week then put them back up after Thanksgiving.

I used to manage a department store that used a canned music service. Starting in September there would be some nondescript instrumental playing when all of a sudden there would be about four bars of a Christmas song inserted into it. By the time it hit you what was happening it was gone, but you had Christmas on your mind.

ARRRrrrrrrr way too early for that... fortunately I can avoid those channels. I think a good start date would be Dec 15.

When I still lived in England I felt Christmas should start at about the beginning of December (a little earlier for advent calendars because who wants to miss out on yummy chocolate) over here I think after Thanksgiving is perfect, don't really like it before that.

Its not that I dislike Christmas music, I just hate having it blaring a non-stop repetitive matra of the same 1,2,or3 songs. I routinely turn and leave a store when the music is too loud and over-bearing. If you like hip/hop or gospel, it doesn't matter. Play what you like in your home, car, or somewhere where people come to hear your music. When I go to Target or Krogers I am going there for a reason and it doesn't involve loud music.

My issue is magnified because I wear hearing aids. It is impossible to filter out ambient sounds. Loud music drums out my ability to hear anything else, including my shopping partner or the cashier. I can't imagine working in a retail environment during the holiday season or as mentioned in this thread, during several months of non-stop Jingle Bells.

When I lived up north (brrrrrrrr), I had the outside Christmas music playing. Ahhh, but not constantly. It would come on when the motions sensors were activated by people walking past the house and play for 2 minutes. The music was on a portable cassette player and had a amplifier for the speakers, with a continuous play 1 hour tape. Yes it was a modified "Walkman". Now, I am sure there are some members asking, "What is a Walkman", or a continuous play tape... TAPE?

After the first day, I did not even hear it come on anymore.

A friend of mine is a security guard in a shopping mall. One Christmas the music being played over the speakers in the mall was Jingle Bells. Fourteen different versions of Jingle Bells. After a few days of that he wanted to kill somebody.

Christmas music is happy feel good music. Women tend to listen to it a lot more than men do. I was surprised that Sirius started it early but I immediately tuned in to those channels and listened for a couple of hours while traveling, just because I could. In deference to my SO, who’s with the other men on here, I didn’t over do it but I did find some new songs for my playlist for later in the season. I haven’t heard Dean Martin since I was a kid. 😀

Ah, tradition!
Decorations go up in town the Friday/Saturday after Thanksgiving. But all the stores have been getting ready since mid-October.
We don't start decorating until after Thanksgiving as my wife wants to enjoy the time and not rush.
But I agree with the music. I start listening around the week of Christmas'ish.
But there is something about a cold blustery day in the TT with the fireplace on, a glass of wine and SOFT Christmas music.
