Yes, that would be my bed. I'm sure there's a pic on here somewhere....here's one. I have an 8 inch memory foam mattress in there now. Not bad comfort wise.

Too bad about Crew Cab Sleeper. I loved mine. Now I use the plywood bed base for a table in my garage and still have the window insert (Why? I'm not sure. Sentimental I guess. Spent many comfortable nights in that bed delivering trailers for Jayco. Sure beat trying to get a good night's sleep in the back seat!)

I believe the RV market decline and bad information on the internet killed Crew Cab Sleeper. With my Ford, I did the DOT measurements the bed was in compliance. Back in 2008 (and it's still out there!), there was a post that stated "The Feds deemed the CCS conversion NOT a compliant sleeper!" WRONG! The FEDS publish the specifications. THEY do not do measuring etc!

I went through MANY scales etc., had log books and permits checked and NEVER was there a question about my sleeper. I've never heard of ANYONE having their Crew Cab Sleeper checked.

It does not meet the 24 x 24 inch requirement in a 3rd gen Dodge. I have not had any issue with mine but I always log off duty not sleeper.

I logged off duty for sleeping, too, when I was driving solo. But when my wife and I drove as a team, we gained driving hours every day by one of us logging sleeper time in the evening and the other in the morning with both of us logging time in the sleeper for 6-8 hours.

The only 'problem' was that our standard poodle hated being kicked out of sleeper to sleep in the front seat when my wife and I were both in the sleeper! Just not enough room for 50 lbs. of poodle and two adults in the sleeper.

Lower trailer makes loading snowmobiles much easier. First pic has 16 on the trailer, the second 14.

Some don't run so we have to drag them off by hand. The runners we turn around so they are pointed down the trailer and drive them off the end.

I have been wanting to ask a question.

When you are towing a RV, do you put a battery in it for the breakaway switch? I have heard that they are not shipped with batteries and wondered how that is handled by the hauler.

When delivering for Jayco, I had to buy my own, small, sealed, wet cell battery (DOT compliant) for the breakaway. It was was put on and removed from each trailer. It was similar to a motorcycle battery, with a different bracket.

On travel trailers, it hung on the trailer frame and was connected to the wiring terminals. There were clamping screws, but I secured to the frame with a bungee cord. On 5w it went in the battery compartment and connected to the trailer wiring.

Did they ever actually make you prove your breakaway battery, switch, and brakes worked at a weigh station? It happened only once to me on a delivery into BC.

BTW, we are planning a trip for this summer and it MIGHT include around the Gaspe, PEI, The Cabot Trail, Halifax, and then down the US coast. Haven't been in NS since making a couple of deliveries to NF in '09 (but no time for sightseeing while working). We made a similar (but vacation) trip in Canada in ~'77. I don't recall any problems finding places to overnight. Times have changed. Any suggestions for over night stays this year?

Only time they checked was not towing a RV but I was towing my car hauler, in Maine.

Overnight stays where exactly?

Hummm.... they checked you in the States and me in Canada.

30+ years ago we were young and didn't plan ahead. We stayed in many Provincial Parks, private campgrounds, and when one of those wasn't available when we needed to stop, we stayed overnight in rest areas/picnic areas. We were in a converted van, not pulling a trailer like we will be this trip.

I don't know where exactly we'll be on this trip; we haven't gone that far in planning yet. But, I've read on the internet that now overnight stops are frowned upon (illegal?) except in campgrounds and Provincial Parks. Overnights in rest areas, picnic areas, Walmart, and other such parking lots are not allowed any more. I guess I'm getting a little anxious having to plan exactly where we will be each night.

Most of this is local city by laws there are still people stopping in Walmarts and Safeway lots. If you look more like you are parked and not really camping in should be a big deal. Most of this is to stop people from living in camper vans in urban areas.

Thank you, Derek (may I call you Derek? Derek700 seems so... formal)

I believed what you said to be the case. I just was looking for some confirmation. We have the same issues here in the States with, it appears, the similar local laws and GENERALLY, the same 'flexible' enforcement in many locations.

We've traveled a lot in Canada over the years and plan on much more. I just didn't want to begin our retirement travels assuming too much.

Thanks again,
Sherm

oldmanAZ, check your pm box. Feel free to email me for maritime advice lol!
On another note I once again was down in Indiana this week picking up trailers. Dealership near me contacted us regarding bringing Jayco pop-ups back for them. We came up with a good price that worked for us and the customer.
