2014 Puma 39PBS. Mileage was not my friend this trip lol. As much as towing 40 ft park models sucks I will say they actually tow well. That much weight and length just ride better IMHO than a little light weight unit. Stupid patio door would not stay latched on this one. They usually screw them shut for transport but quality control missed this one I guess. Nothing a few zip ties wouldn't fix though lol.
Dry Hitch Weight 1,295 lbs. (587 kg)
Unloaded Vehicle Weight 9,225 lbs. (4,184 kg)
GVWR 11,455 lbs. (5,196 kg)
Exterior Length 40' 2" (12.2 m)
Exterior Height 11' 9" (3.6 m)
Exterior Width 96" (2.4 m)

Did you have to upgrade your hitch to handle tongue weights on some of the heavier units? How is the truck holding up so far?
Always look forward to your posts keep them coming.

No upgrade on hitch. Unloaded these park models are around 1000 lbs tongue weight which the WD the truck handles without issue.
The truck is holding up awesome for something 11 years old that sees this kind of mileage. Front end parts seem to wear fast, had to rebuild the tranny and rear end, other than just regular fluid changes.

Nope. Lloydminster is as far west as I get. I miss Calgary a lot, lived in Banff at some point back in the mid 90s lol

ANother small milestone this trip (pic # 1) and that is KMS. Noting special for the Cummins but it only had 175, 000 kms on Nov 22, 2012.
Took a 2014 Crossroads Hampton 400 FL Park model for a short 180 mile run. Just looking at spec now and realizing it was 43 feet long ha ha. I am getting WAY to comfortable towing these park models.
Dry Weight: 10750
GVWR: 13182
Hitch Weight: 1182
Exterior Length:43'1"
Second trailer was a 2014 Heartland Torque TQ290. This was my very first toy hauler that I've towed. Had to adjust my hitch after the first hour or so to get rid of some of the sway. Mileage was nothing spectacular given the aerodynamic front end. Think I saw an average of around 10.5 mpg at 63-65mph. Canada Customs paperwork had the empty weight on this at 9900 lbs, funny the company website says 8400. Felt like 9900 to me.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 13,000 lbs
Dry Weight 8,400 lbs
Hitch Weight 1,335 lbs
Length 36' 5"

One thing I don't recalling seeing in this thread is any tire issues on the new trailers during delivery. I'm sure most all of these trailers have "china bombs" on them that are loaded to the max. The lack of tire issues during delivery would indicate to me that tire age is the tire killer vs where they are made or the brand. Now I'm sure tire brand and manufacture point would play a big part in tire longevity, but early in their life they all seem to do the job. Obviously we don't leave out running with proper pressure and not dragging them across curbs, but in a professional delivery operation I would believe these items would never be missed.
Keep the reports coming please. How far can a Cummins go?

Ed, one thing different in delivering new trailers, no fluids in any tanks, no batteries, no propane and no Stuff loaded, weight in the tires is much less than the typical end user and plus he is not running 80 Mph pulling these units.
Another factor is he only pulls into Canada, it does get quite warm up there in the summer but sure not like the HOT weather and HOT roads we get down here in the South during the summer.
I have seen a number of trailers at RV Dealers in the South that have had spare tire put on during delivery to the dealer.
Four things that affect tire life and cause failures, Heat, Weight, Air Pressure, Speed !!!

From what I recall all of these trailers have had "China Bombs" of one brand or another. Probably fair to say these units as I tow them are a few thousand lbs lighter than the avg consumer ends up loading them to for recreational purposes. I always check tire pressures when I pick up the units. They are always properly inflated, however I have had many loose wheel nuts. AS you said I don't hit 80 mph towing (or empty!) like I see many others doing.
Longevity of the Cummins........one of the drivers that works for the same company has a 2007 or 2008 (whatever the first year of the 6.7 was) that was bought brand new for hauling RVs. AS of Monday he was at 1,800,000 kms.

I agree Rob. One item you missed on causes of tire failure is dragging them across curbs and damaging the tire. If you then add your four items - blam!

You are absolutely correct Rob. I have always been an early riser, but since I retired it has gotten worse. I was up this morning at 4:00am.
I definitely "ain't right".
