damn snakes

The DW and I had to move our TT to a "new" storage lot yesterday that is actually an old Nike missle base that was decomissioned in 1968. I found the lot pretty easily with the help of Google Maps and when we arrived, I found the security guy that lives on the grounds. The guy lives in one of the old cinder block buildings at the site. As I'm talking to him in the building's entry way something drops at by me from the ceiling and falls inches from my feet. The guy jumps back a bit and I look down to see a 2 foot long black snake. I stepped back out of the building and told him I'd go park my trailer while he took care of the snake. I checked my shorts, and proceeded to park the trailer. A few minutes later the guard came and found me and said he took care it the snake which had eaten some baby barn swallows nested in the entry way ceiling. I hate snakes...

I'm not crazy about snakes either...., don't mind them as long as I see them first!

Did some hiking in the Philippines a couple years ago...., seen some big ones there

It amazes me how snakes can climb just about anything. We watched a ratsnake climb our neighbors front door to eat baby birds from a nest in a hanging door wreath.

On the bright side, at least the snake wasn't a poisonous variety. About five miles from where I'm building a home base, there's a Boy Scout camp that I've camped at many times with my sons when they were Scouts. One afternoon, a large Timber rattlesnake wandered into the campsite. The camp staff promptly came and removed it, but afterwards, it left everyone with an uneasy feeling knowing that snake could have just as easily been coiled up under your tent bunk when you got out of bed in the morning.
