MA offers a variety of specialty plates, and I got my Pan Mass Challenge (supports cancer research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute) plates last week. Yes they are a little more expensive, but all of the money goes to a good cause so IMHO it's worth it.

DW got the same randomly assigned unique plate others have mentioned about 30 years ago, but refuses to change it as it just happened to have her initials on it.

My plate is the "personal" one that the state of KY assigned just to me. No one else has the same one so that makes it personal.

Florida has 67 specialty plates. Add to that the personal addition and the states are raking in money. I will put my money into the RV. Florida sales tax and property tax gets enough of my cash.

Did have my last name on plates many years ago, when they first became available in NY. It took up the whole plate, and it was hilarious when a cop friend ran it in my driveway...phonetically. I think it was a first for the trooper, on the other end of the radio.

I'm former military but chose to put it behind me. So no combat plates for me. So I went with my second passion. Being a parrothead and my favorite song is "A Pirate looks at Forty", So I tagged my Betsy that in short.

My state offers several "specialty plates" related to several topics. One for Military personnel is "KIA" for "Killed In Action" which makes me ask. "Who is displaying it?" and "How healthy is the driver of the auto displaying it?" Is he/she dead?

Things to ponder.

My RV's is a Navy veteran plate and is my ship's hull number. I was proud to serve on a ship named after a Medal of Honor winner from the Vietnam War.

I've never had a special plate until just recently. As mentioned Massachusetts has many that benefit a number of different organizations.
There has been quite a bit of hoopla recently surrounding the return of the great white shark off our shores here due to the increased population of grey seals. In 2013 the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy was established to help educate the public about this magnificent creature. They also are just beginning to learn migration habits of the white shark and the important roll they play as part of a healthy ocean ecosystem. So just recently, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy plate was created to help fund these activities. I'm an avid ocean fisherman here in Massachusetts and am all about helping inform and educate the public of the beautiful resource we have here. As a guy that takes from the ocean, I think it's important to help give back.
