Dogs and fireworks

Ah, the Fourth of July...

Anybody else’s dog going ape-?

I can’t imagine how it would be if I was in my camper tonight...

Yes, my dog goes bokers every 4th of July. The fireworks make's her extremely nervous. We have to give her Benadryl to calm her down and help her sleep.

We gave him some tranqs we got from the vet, but it doesn’t seem to help. I’ve heard about something out there that’s related to cannibis, made for pets, but I’ve never explored it.

My current GSD is fairly good with fireworks. (We never allow him to be close to a display but in general he is OK with fireworks in the neighborhood.) The one I had previous to this one was a handful to say the least come the 4th.

Usually Fireworks and thunder make the dog shake andgo nuts. Tonight we put her thunder shirt on her about 7 pm and fireworks are makeing lots of noise outside and she is laying on floor like nothing is happening. Of course it will be 3 am before I can get her to go out to go to bathroom.

Two of our cats have gone into hiding. Our youngest son's dog (named Stormy) hated storms and fireworks.

One thing that people seem to forget is our combat Veterans. Our former son-in-law would hide in the closet buried in whatever he could bury himself in. He was clearing buildings & someone threw in a hand grenade, not realizing he & several others were in there. He also has traumatic brain injury (TBI) which definitely impacted his eye sight.

Last weekend we attended Pine Fort Days, a fur-trade era recreation and interpretive event at one of our favourite provincial parks. Complete with musket fire and cannons. The dog went ballistic, and that's when we found out she doesn't like loud sudden noises. It got to the point that whenever we walked through the tent camp the interpreters and volunteers set up, she would start pulling in the other direction. Even at our campsite, a good half-mile away from the part centre, she reacted.

One of the cats is snoozing on the chair beside me in spite of all the noise. The other 6 disappeared some time ago and we may not see some of them again until tomorrow. I will say they are extremely creative and resourceful when it comes to finding hiding spots. Fortunately they are contained, even when outside, so they can't run away and get lost in all the excitement. This is the worst holiday for them.

Our dog is staying close.
He's not happy at all.

Like a day of hell for poor Tunce and it started last night and will go till tomorrow night. I keep the TV up loud and we try and sleep in the living room tonight. Ask these stupid people what independents day represents and they look at you with a blank stare on their face.
