Electric Shaver vs. Razor

After shaving my whole life with disposable razors and shave cream, I decided to purchase a Philips Norelco electric shaver. So far, I am very happy with it. I am going to buy another one for my RV.

Advantages – Convenience, water saving, time saving.

Disadvantages – takes a little more room storing it, charger takes up room on the counter, cannot charge shaver while boondocking unless you have a generator, solar power etc.

So I’ll start this poll, which do you prefer?

Now that my job doesn't require me to be clean shaven, I let my beard grow most weeks. When I do shave, it is a single blade disposable.

Tried the top of the line Braun shavers twice. Once 10 years ago, once last year. Both times I don’t get a close shave, and I got ingrown hairs. I never have any issues at all w/ my Gillette Sensor Excel.

I’ve used electric for about 40 years now and like the convenience of it. One charge lasts a good two weeks and the charger is about the size if 3 9v batteries.

I’ve had an electric razor and have gone tia razor with shaving cream for the best shave. The electric just doesn’t give a close shave.

This one is from 1966 when I was drafted and my Mom sent it to me while in boot camp and it still works and I take it backpacking with me to this day. It’s a Norelco & 4-A batteries

Now that's quite an antique!

Just grow a beard, and forget about it when you’re camping.

Being retired and shaving sounds like an oxymoron to me. But if I had to choose, then it would be the cheapest disposable razor I could find.

Once I did grow a beard during a week long camping trip. I thought I looked good with the beard, but the DW hated it. I did not get any "action" until I shaved it off.

It seems kinda unfair that she knows what NOT to do to get her own way.

It comes with being female. There's a handbook they're born with that no man has ever seen. On the cover it says "I'm not happy 'till you're not happy".

I use the same hair clippers on my face as I use on the top of my head.

I knew a guy years ago that got caught selling illegal contraband and went to a low-security jail for several months. Razors of any kind for shaving weren't allowed, so in order to impress the board at his first parole hearing, he used Nair on his face to look clean-shaven.

It took off all the hair, along with the top layer of skin. I don't know if his beet-red face impressed the parole board, and I don't remember if he was let off early or not.

I remember seeing one of those in a museum.

If I don't shave with an electric every day I end up with ingrown hairs, never an issue with a blade. Also Williams Electric shave helped a lot for me. For those who never have used an electric razor or had issues, I found that for me after a month or so that the irritation issues went away. I have an electric razor but don't use it often as the blade gives me a better shave. ~CA

As one who can only grow a "summer" beard (some are here, some are here) I shave every few days with a 20+ year old Gillette Mach3 razor with a shaving brush and mug.

"Summer here and summer here!"
