On Sep 30, 1991, the US Air Force decided to eliminate the gunner from the B-52.

For 13 1/2 years prior to that date, I flew backwards for a living. I was one of the very last gunners.

The upper pennisula of Michigan is known as the U.P. The locals are known as Yoopers. Also, there is a band from the town that my dad grew up in in the U.P. called Da Yoopers. I am a fan of the U.P. and have vacationed there my entire life and I'm a fan of Da Yoopers, so I came up with Yooperfan.
