Here's another vote for "Lonesome Dove"; followed by two Tom Sellek westerns tied for second: "Monte Walsh" and "Quigly Down Under".

Sorry to get hung up on technicalities. I love Lonesome Dove but to me it doesn’t count in greatest movies because it’s a mini series.

Well, for some of us life is a mini series! That includes the western life style.

Favorite Western Movie?
I like most of the ones mentioned. And, maybe I missed seeing a post, but I'd add "Red River" to the mix. I would also add "The Shootist."

For me? Hands down the best western film ever made was Lonesome Dove. I’m currently reading the the novel for the second time. Incredible!

Tombstone, The Searchers, True Grit (John Wayne), Big Jake, Liberty Valance: There are so many.
It is funny though. Watching those movies filmed in Monument Valley and Utahs parks are one of the main reason I got into RVing. I want to pull a rig to those places to experience it in person. Being an East Coast guy it is still a few years away but I can't wait until I will have the vacation time to do it.

Absolute favorite. Gus and the bartender. I'm old enough now, I feel like doing exactly what Gus did on occasion.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is also very good.

Based on the current politically correct climate we live in and sensitivities of the day, I too would have to vote for Blazing Saddles.

My 2 Bits
"Lonesome Dove" I mean it looks like a movie but great none the less and another Duval classic "Open Range" with Kevin Costner.

Who shot Liberty Valance. Because of the excellent cast. And, anything Josey Wales.

Am I the only one that loves The Shootist? This was the Duke's final role.
I also like Tombstone, Quigley, Monte Walsh, etc. Heck I have over 150 westerns in my library.
