Flying J RV Discount changes

The Flying J / GoodSam discount has changed.. it is now based on how many gallons of fuel you buy. My normal 7-8 cent discount was only 4 cents today..

I can always beat FJ's price even with the discount, sometimes right across the street.

Seann45 I thought of getting a card but I have tried several times to access their Rv pumps and they are a pain in the butt for me . I pull a 40 ft fiver with a long box truck and a RZR behind that . So now I just go back with the semi . No card machine back there.

I got one of their cards several years ago and have never used it.

I like saving money, but I hate being direct marketed too. All of these loyalty discount cards serve the bigger purpose of collecting demographic, purchase history, and other data that can be mined for marketing purposes. I have given up all of them and pay cash for 90% of my purchases to significantly reduce my electronic foot print.

For the 1000 or so gallons of fuel I purchase each year the .07 per gallon savings isn't worth my privacy. Plus if you pay in cash you are often provided a decent discount.

I am not full blown foil hat wearing outcast yet, I still leave quite a footprint -- this site included, but I am becoming more conscious of what information I share or allow to be collected.

It's been a little more than I year since I started this and the amount of junk mail and telemarketing calls we receive have significantly reduced.

I found this also, when traveling the full length of I-75.
Another factor, many of their pumps were a PITA to get into. Much easier at other stations. To be fair, the difficult ones are the older ones.

Good points Clubhouse. I don't even give my postal/zip code at checkouts.

If you have one of their cards you can start the pump and then go in and pay when finished pumping.. Saves a little time.

Seann,
I would have thought, if you're filling your Titan tank, you would be purchasing a sufficient volume? Or, are they now tracking the amount a person purchases in any given month? Not quite sure how it works. I had thought it was instant and based on the amount purchased right then.

I did not realize the discount was not offered at the truck pumps. In fact, at exit 109 off I-75, I thought I had used the card in the back at the truck pumps. Credit card anyway, because that is how I always buy my fuel. Been so long since I got fuel there that I have forgotten. I have found also I can beat their prices by 10 cents or so a gallon across the street. This is very evident at exit 101 on I-75 at Cordele, Ga. There is a flash station across the interstate exit that a lot of trucks stop for their fuel as well. I found that their larger pump nozzle at Pilot will also get stuck in my fuel tank inlet as it is much bigger than on the car island pumps. If they have lowered their discount, they just lost my business. No big deal to them I'm sure, my last bill was only $21 dollars so you can see I'm not using them very much. Just needed fuel in the wife's car so filled it up there.

I've gotten the discount and you get the cash price unless it recently changed. However I'm not a big fan of Pilot/Flying J. I use Shell, Marathon or Hess whenever possible.

I have never gotten a bit of mail from them and only rarely do I get a buy our coffee email.. Any credit card you use will have the ability to know where you are and what your buying.. and at $200.00 a fill I don't carry that kind of cash with me.

The real reason I got the J card is because I am Canadian and using a Canadian CC at the pump in the USA is a major PIA
