Well the batteries had been out of my Garmin GPS45 for awhile, so I figured all my data would be lost... no big deal. Put in a new set of batteries a couple of days ago, fired it up and seemed to acquire satellites just fine. Marking way-points wasn't an issue either.......... but......,

I noticed today (prior to a hike) that the date being displayed was incorrect, like by years!! Did a little internet search and found that in many cases this can happen when batteries are left out of some GPS's for a period of time. So far I haven't been able to find a fix for my old Garmin 45 model. My concern now is the accuracy of other satellite data.

May have to look into a new GPS .

Bob

Found my old one, put batteries in, and found a local 'cache'?

Apparently also time traveled while doing same. Odd sport.

GEOCACHING, sounds interesting.

I just stumbled upon this activity. I'be heard the name before but never knew what it was until this week.

It sounds like a fun activity and one I'd like to try!

A reminder to all of you out for an adventure - try Geocaching! When a teen hates playing games, chances are they will love this. I was in Ireland at a business meeting and a newly-met co-worker took about 6 of us on a hunt, what a great ice-breaker. I have a gps60 and a gps62 I use for hunting and I think I will try caching this summer with the 7 and 4 year old while camping. Sounds like it would be something fun to do with my boys

We love to go geocaching when camping!! Another activity somewhat similar is letterboxing. You use clues instead of GPS coordinates to find the "treasure". There are apps for both you can download.
