We had a nice visit to the communities of Oelwein and Hazelton, IA. We toured a really neat little railroad museum from the "Great Western" era. Pica of that particular train and station attached. Next was the Fontana Park and Nature Center which had many types of injured animal now calling this place home (hair-lip looking raccoon - his nose was bit off and is now called "No Nose"; a domesticated brown bear who was declawed as a baby; eagle and other fowl missing parts of wings; etc). Attached is pic of eagle. Near the nature center was Otter Creek d amn. Attached are pics of d amn and one near Lake Oelwein where we camped.

Thanks for all the comments/replies folks! The trip is actually great so far. We made it to Milwaukee and will post pics later. Busy playing cards for next few days with my soon to be 100 yr old aunt! We did get to spend the day yesterday at the state fair which was fun.

Hey, if you are in Milwaukee you don't want to miss the Harley Davidson Museum on Canal Street. Here is a link: http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/C...p?locale=en_US

All this talk about Milwaukee... man some cheese curds sound good! The Harley Davidson museum is a great suggestion Sam. There used to be a Briggs and Straton facility that you could tour also... if your in to small engines that is.

We are out of heat-wave/advisory territory for sure! Weird, it hasn't been very humid so far.

I looked up Rhinlander and it looks like it is just a little bit off the route we would be taking up to Mackinac Island. May consider it, thanks Wayne

Not sure about the engines, but a cheese tour would be kewl. We decided though to go to the distillery to see how whiskey is made! Hmmm, wonder if they give samples

Don went there with my cousin a couple of summer's ago (I was too busy playing cards and losing nickels to my near centenarian auntie) . They enjoyed it. Brought me back a cool poker looking chip.

Mackinac Island, Mi

We had fun a couple weeks back when we spent two nights in Mackinaw City, Mi. We took a day trip via ferry to Mackinac Island (pronounced Mackinaw). For those who have never been, Mackinac Island has banned motorized vehicle for more than a century and remains a living Victorian community. Only bikes/horses/carriages. And the ferry/Island is very pet friendly. Breezi was welcomed at all but the Grand Hotel. She sat with us while dining on one of the restaurant patios. Next time, we would like to camp (this time we stayed at a hotel)

Jayco Made Carriage!

We took a horse and carriage tour on Mackinac Island. We rode a smaller carriage, then transfered to the larger JAYCO made 28 passenger carriage! They were special made for Mackinac Island by Jayco a few years back

Looks like you had fun on Mackinac Island. The island is much better than the city, although they have definately improved the city in the last 10 years by adding the large shopping court. We try to get the kids to the island every couple of years on our way to the Upper. If you decide to camp in the area try Wilderness State Park just west of Mackinaw City. There is also a KOA near there that I've heard good things about. Avoid Mackinaw Mill Creek campground as the sites are tiny and it is very crowded.

Back on the Road

After a month in Milwaukee, we're packed up and back on the road and heading home! My auntie had a fantastic 100th bday party last week. The rv park at the fairgrounds turned out to be a nice home for the month.

We made it to the Omaha area. Unfortunately we will spend the morning at a dealer having warranty work done on our Equalizer Hitch. The bracket on the tongue shifted somehow and the bracket bent and cracked. It happened when me made a turn into the campground.

Here is a kewl pic of a yellow flower.... can you see the beetle and the bee?
