How the Govt shutdown is hurting nearby Chincoteague Island

This story tells how local businesses are being hurt by the govt shutdown. Chincoteague is being affected by the closure of the Chincoteague National Widlife refuge, Assateague National Seashore Park, and Nasa Wallops Island.

Such a shame. And shame on Congress. And I mean ALL of Congress. I wrote both my Congressman and Senators, demanding that they suspend all Congressional pay until this is over, and that they deny themselves and staffers any retroactive pay. After all, those folks who have lost their livelyhood during this mess will not get retroactive pay after things have reopened.

Every town near a National attraction like a monument, park, etc has suffered. The people that get hurt the most are the low wage service industry people. I am sure that every congressman and woman is hoping that we will forget by the next election.

They are patting themselves on the back today because they have a partial solution.

Update - the shut down is technically over as of today, but received a return letter from my Congressman, Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, in today's mail. In it he said he agreed with me, and has refused to accept his pay until all is settled. At least he seems to be listening to his constituents. Wish they all did.

It would be nice to be in a position where you don't have to cash your pay checks.
