I just found the following on the Arkansas Highway Department web site:

I-40 Westbound Closed
at Brinkley (Exit 216)

I-40 Eastbound Now Closed
at Hazen (Exit 193)

This area in eastern Arkansas is closed due to flooding of the Mississippi River.

Yep. Closed. You can still pass through, but have to take a fairly lengthy and slow detour.

I was in downtown Memphis last night and had to come in a different direction because one of the main roads (Riverside Drive) is underwater. It is causing major problems here and is still on the rise. Our church, as well as several others, are staged as emergency shelters. Next week will be the big event.

There will be many folks here displaced or impacted, as well as elsewhere along these rivers. Keep these folks in your thoughts and prayers.

Floods always seem to impact the poorer people in a community. It seems that all the rich people live up on the hills. Saddly, it takes years for flood victims to recover because low income families usually can't afford flood insurance.
