International Cat Rescue Day

March 2 is International Cat Rescue Day. Give your cat a hug. Our daughter and son in law help out with the rescue cat organization in their area. They temporarily adopt about 4 kittens at a time till they get old enough to be neutered. Lately there has been a demand from people wanting to adopt cats. Along with their 3 horses (one being pregnant), 3 dogs and full time jobs I admire them for their love of animals.

Here's our rescue cat. Someone dropped him off at our farm approx a year and a half ago. He was obviously starving and not taken care of when they abandoned him.

Anyway, he has to be the friendliest little thing that I've ever seen.

Camping Cat

There is a YouTube couple that take their cat camping all over the country. Happilyeverhanks.com. Their cats name is Dexter. We subscribed to their videos and have been really fun to watch over the winter while we're not camping.

We lost our two cats about a year ago. One was 20, the other 19. They had a good life with us. We rescued three cats this Fall, all under 3 years old. I forgot how much energy young cats have!

We have good friends that camp with their cat 6 months or more out of the year.
That said, it's not for me!

…And also remember..

Dogs have owners… Cats have staff.

Our rescue, Purrscilla, has been camping with us since 2008. She even helps me hookup the TT.

We started collecting our current batch of feral rescues back in 2009 (see group picture below). It is always a mixed bag with them from behavioral issues to a myriad of health problems. But they have been some of the best cats we've had. Many of them have become wonderful indoor house pets and those that aren't able to make that adjustment still live in luxury. None are travelers and some still require meds in order to make a trip to the vet. We added Annie (b&w tripawd) in late January last year. She was ~7 months old at the time and still recovering from the leg amputation. She has two modes - sleeping and Tasmanian Devil. Wrigley came shortly after so Tux would have a buddy after Oliver passed away. He struggles with behavioral issues that made it impossible to have an adoption into a normal home setting but has fit right in here.

Tying this into RV'ing - one of the reasons we have our travel trailer is to make regular trips to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah for volunteering. They have a 6-site RV campground right on the sanctuary where we usually spend a couple different weeks during the season. If you are ever in the Kanab, UT area I highly recommend stopping in and taking a tour of the place, or better yet, volunteer - lots of different opportunities. We also support our local Humane Society which is where we got Annie and Wrigley.

We found Charley when he was less than an hour old. His mother must have dropped him while moving her kittens, and he was laying on hot blacktop in a parking lot with his umbilical cord still attached. May wife said what should we do? I said you have two choices; put him in the trash or get a bottle at the pet store and feed him. He lived to be 14 and weighed almost 20 pounds...a great cat!

Our current rescue, Gigi. She showed up one rainy night about 6 years ago and never left, even though she was an outdoor/indoor cat. Now she prefers being indoors and loves to play with out rescue dog Jake. And just to clarify for those worried about posting names, our pet names are not in our secret, security questions.

We rescued 2 sisters in 2014 in SW Missouri (and not one of our security answers). The following year we rescued a male about a week old (again, not a security answer). All 3 travel with us because 1 of the sisters will not eat while we are gone. And the male is such a bully at times - especially between 0530 and 0630!

Camping Cat

Our cats Luke and Leia were rescued as tiny feral kittens from our house’s egress window. Luke loves to camp along with our dog. Leia stays at home

No cats for us, but for the past 3-4 weeks we've been scanning Petfinder.com and several regional animal shelter websites for the right dog to help rescue. The dedication of some of the shelter staff, many unpaid volunteers, is remarkable. They really care about the critters. The little Cattle Dog that we've decided on was transported from Texas along with her two sisters to a shelter in Illinois. After a dog fight there among 4 dogs, the decision was made to euthanize the 3 sisters. Two were killed but when the 3rd was on the table for the procedure, they discovered that she was pregnant; that saved her. She was shipped back to Texas, then to Minnesota. Sunday she'll come home and begin a new life with us. Her name will be changed to Grace (by grace you have been saved). We're very thankful for shelters and staffs.

OMG I didn't know about that Cat Rescue day... My parents saved a cat, they found her outside... Now she is our favorite, we love her soo much! Definitely need to celebrate it next year! I know that they hug her every day, but I need to remember them about it anyway!

i had cats all during childhood years. then all of a sudden, my sophomore year in high school, I became so allergic to them. We tried taking in a cat years ago, hoping I would be fine, but noooo...

Interestingly enough, we were in need of a couple of windows at that time and a salesman was there to show us the different products. As he was giving his demonstration, the cat was giving him some lovin'. He explained how much he likes cats and how many he had at home... Long story short, he didn't make any sales with us, but he did go home with a cat, though. ;o) We haven't a cat since and that has been over 20 some years ago.

Without preaching, I have had cats since I was 1 year old. My dad brought a cat home as a rescue in the 40s. BUT do not allow your cats to roam outside. Cat's kill more native birds than any predator that roams the night. They are invasive when allowed to roam.

I love cats and have been a cat owner for many, many years but respect the Environment don't allow you cat to roam outside.
