Is free really free?

I received a call today from a campground in a neighboring state. They are offering me a free 4 days of camping with a hookup. The lady stated they are contacting registered RV owners and offering them thus one time deal. Scary part is that she told me she just google mapped the trip and said from my front door to theirs was X amount of time and she was about right.
I told her I was at work and that I would have to talk to the wife so I'd be in touch. When I got home I Googled the name of the campground and sure enough there it was. The number was different than what the girl supplied me earlier so I called it. Number was good obviously so then I asked for the lady I spoke with amd she said oh ya hang on. I stopped her and explained that I just wanted to check to make sure she was legit and obviously she is a living breathing person that works there.
Thanks to my Father beating it into my head growing up that nothing in this world is free if you want it you work for it an pay for it. My question is has anybody ever received such an offer and took them up on it and if so what's the hook? By thier website it looks like a nice place and being in Oct maybe we'd catch some leaf change around the lake.

We got an offer like that for a CG in Colorado for, IIRC, 3 nights and 2 days. The catch was we had to sit through a sales presentation.

DW and I have no problem saying 'No, thanks' so we took them up on their offer, stayed in a nice CG, and said 'No, thanks' over and over during the sales pitch.

I wondered about a sales pitch but then I thought what could a campground that rents everything have to sell.

Ahhhh, didn't think of that. Might have to think about this one. Only thing worse than a sales pitch is warm beer

Would you drink a warm beer for 4 free nights?

Once I hear FREE come out of their mouth I hang up. Thats why I don't usually answer a call if I don't know who it is, thats what voice mail is for.

go back to what your dad said, there is no free lunch. These deals are offered all over the map for lots in a new development, campground memberships, time shares, etc. They are pretty good at what they do and can often convenes even the most determined "no thanks". My advice is thanks but no thanks. If you go you also risk getting on another list from other association members who will want to entice you with offers for their facility.

Nothing new here. Same ol same ol sales presentation gig. Pass.

Free is NOT really free. Whether it’s your time or money.

Ya after a minute or 2 more of contemplating I think we'll pass. I don't want to be badgered on a sales "deal".
