So, I pieced together a piece of junk vertical antenna out of spare parts and scrap I had in our old machine shed. It is a dedicated 10-meter antenna made out of a 102" stainless whip, a matching 102" piece of scrap 12-gauge copper run to a ground rod. It is mounted to an old piece of galvanized pipe that was used as a clothesline post here on the farm years ago with a piece of 1/2" pvc, a CB mirror antenna mount, and some 4" muffler clamps.

I already worked Portland Oregon, Puerto Rico, and Bosnia and Herzegovina with it from here in PA. It is an ugly mess, but works better than even I could have expected.

I've barely scratched the surface of FT8. Our local radio club has a class on it on Wednesday and I am going to try and attend if possible.

Your propagation map is very interesting. In my very brief time on 10 meter, I've already made multiple contacts to the west coast, Puerto Rico, and central Europe. Looks like you have had great success in to those areas also.

Made my longest distance contact to date this evening. 5343 miles to Argentina on 10-meter FT8.

Good job! It is fun. I spent many a wee hour trying to make contact with some distant island in the Pacific where someone had set up a station and was working DX. I do have some interesting DX cards from those years.

I had a schedule with some friends in Australia that we would make once a week and some Russians at strange hours of the morning. Generally working 15 and 20.

My Spanish got better with some of the South American DXing.

Fun Stuff!

Absolutely true. I can already tell that I'm picking up some of the phrases and find myself now able to pick up the call signs when they are calling them in Spanish and even Italian.

Lots of different directions that this hobby can take you that I never knew existed until I got involved. With our local EOC for a Severe Weather communications drill at PA State Game Lands 138.
