Kid friendly movies that aren't kids movies
We have a projector and during the summer we do movie nights at the house. Set up the screen Have a camp fire, grill, the whole bit. So we were thinking of bringing it with us and setting up a screen to have movie nights at the campground. I understand not everywhere will let us do this but we will where we can. Anyways we are having some difficulties deciding on what movies to watch. We want something that is kid friendly so we don't get kicked out. But as a group of adults we don't want to watch Disney movies either. So what would you recommend? My girlfriends little brother is 15 he is the youngest in the group

You may get noise complaints no matter what you play. I would stay away from R and some PG13’s. That pretty much eliminates most movies for me.
We have been in some kid friendly cg’s that had movie nights and they were a hit.
Our camping club shows a movie using a video projector and. It’s always a hit.
Let us know how it works.

Look at some of the older movies that most kids these days haven't ever seen. I'd recommend The Sandlot, Mighty Ducks, Stand By Me, and The Goonies to name a few.

How about Secondhand Lion. The grandkids and I have watched it multiple times and I could watch it again now!

Although a very good movie, Stand By Me is rated R. Lots of F-bombs in Stand By Me. I would agree on the rest.
80s movies are tough because of the language. There are a lot of great 80s movies, but even the PG ones have a lot of language. There are several PG13 80s movies with nudity (Back to School and 16 Candles to name a couple).

I think there was a rule in the 80's when pg-13 was rolled out where you could get away with one F-bomb and keep your pg-13 status.
A few years back we watched Ghostbusters again -- and was surprised by the language.

I've seen some of those older R rated movies on TV so many times I forget how the original appeared.
I watched Beetlejuice with my 9 and 14 year old the other week and they looked it but thought it was weird. My daughter likes the Tim Burton movies but I find them weird

I have been doing this for several years. My favorite is in the fall and watching NFL games on Thursday or Sunday night. Nothing like tailgating in the woods watching the game on my projector.
Usually on a long week trip we will do a movie once. What I do is use a tote and my Bluetooth speaker to keep the sound directed towards the unit. I have yet to have a complaint about it. Usually the kids have made new friends by then and they join in with a quick check to the parents on what we're showing.
"Inconceivable" The Princess bride is a classic and fan fave all around. Last year I put Smokey and the Bandit up in a more "mixed" audience. Dun, dun, da, have no fear Chaos is here!!
Language in anything pre PG-13 era, say 1990 and older should be pre-screened. PG still have language prior to this rating class.
RV is always a hit
Aliens in the attic
Inside out
The Lego Movie is funny the 1st 2x's
Chicken Run

The Karate Kid
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Spaceballs (language though)
Uncle Buck
The Great Outdoors
NLP Vacation
Better off Dead
Big Fat Liar
Too name a few...

Sorry for NLP Vacation suggestion, strike it. I don't own the DVD, just watch the TV version which is cut up.

Beatles Yellow Submarine.
It is a cartoon, but not like other cartoons, as the animation is unique.
Young kids like it, and adults will appreciate the music and some of the puns and jokes.

Not sure if they were Disney or not, but Babe and Toy Story aren't to bad to watch as an adult. Never know, it might bring back the kid in you. Ask your city park director for their summer line up of movies. Or, go to their website to see if the line up is posted.
