Little excitement
Since last Dec we have lived at the Arizonian RV resort in Gold Canyon. Well last Friday wife and I went shopping. Got home parked the car and started unloading the car, took some bags in and came back out for the rest of them and when I turned around to walk to the house about 10 fet away there was a 3-3 1/2 foot Diamond back rattler crossing the street. [No pics] Went into the house and wife said she was going to take our dog for a walk and I said no your not, she said why, told her to look out the window, after she looked she said nope not taking dog outside, she called fire dept and about 20 minutes later they took the Arizona buzz worm away. Kinda glad we are not going to be here this summer. This was the 3rd snake they took out.

I spent a few months around Texas this past winter and took a pic of a snake minding it's own business...., not knowing what it was I gave it some distance:

Glad they did not kill the snake, but took it away...hopefully to set it free else where. We have snakes around our camp. I give them plenty of room when I see them. I know I don't always see them and that is what worries me.

We typically get a mix of black rat snakes, copper heads, and water moccasins from the lake in our back yard. Have yet to run across one while out camping...yet.

Good thing you are moving for the summer Ernie. My dad got bit on the ankle when he was getting out of his motorhome in Quartzsite years ago. The snake was a small one and it was just under the steps and it tagged him when he stepped on the ground. Be safe.

Exactly why we won't camp at South Carolina Myrtle Beach State Park. When the first picture and sentence on the page is a warning for me to wear closed toed shoes because of the copper head problem they have, I decided right then, nothing there would be beautiful enough for me to see! Sorry - we have a farm and I still don't like snakes.

Oh I know, trust me. We live about 200 yards from the entrance to the state park and seen many snakes over the years dissapear into the woods going back into the park.

tis the season for sure...
Always reminds me of working in that area back in the late 60s - early 70s near Maricopa AZ. The night crew tells us they found a sidewinder at the site and put it in the big barrel so we all run out there to take a look at it.... Naturally it isn't in the barrel and here is three or four grown-ups tiptoeing back the office building hehe... You could see the sidewinder marks in the sand where the snake left the scene haha...
In Texas working on the same electronic satellite tracking system the rattlesnakes really loved to get on the cool concrete steps at night outside the field operations buildings. You would be working hard on things in the field buildings and running back and forth to the truck getting things. Open the building entrance door and there he is ready to strike at you....
scary times indeed...

Snake? Why worry?
This friendly little guy came to visit last summer while I was hosting in Florida. The man in the road was my next site neighbor. My site was the first drive to the right just past this friendly fellow. The road at this point is 10' wide to give you an idea of this guy's length.

Awesome to read 2 weeks before we're making our first trip down to the state park....As long as DW doesn't see any, we'll be ok.

Funny we lived in Tucson for 34 years and didn't see any, been here 5 months and seen 3. Go figure. We just have to be real careful going out. But you know this was their land before people moved here. Last May we were down at Tombstone Territories and heading into Tombstone we ran over one crossing road, turned around and drove back to see what damaged I did and he was gone, coulod not have been more than 3 minutes.
