Looked inside my primary low-voltage junction xox for giggles....
Found this....(picture on the left)
This is a non-weatherproof box on the front of the TT frame which gets washed in run-off from the front of the camper and from TV tire spray, salt and grime while travelling. Because of the way the wires were placed into the box, water was guided down wires into the wire nuts which filled with water. The connections were already corroded and the wire nuts were rusting and starting to fail.

I found the same thing on mine. Like you, I turned the connectors over so they would not hold water. You would think the factory QC would be aware of something that simple to prevent problems. The time to do it right must eat into the profit margin.

Yup, think of it this way: do you want an umbrella or a bucket? Then orient the wire nuts accordingly.

It is a simple fix to be done at the factory. If they have warranty calls on it, then perhaps they would investigate and resolve the issue. I work for a sport/luxury car manufacturer, and the quality process never ends. If we have a warranty issue it is always investigated and every attempt made to be sure it is resolved in plant. I think that RV manufacturers could learn a lot from premium car manufacturers. its often the little things that hurt or help.

I opened mine up when I was having the battery issue (the 2 6 volts were connected wrong to each other by the dealer) and one of the marrets had wires falling out of it. Now I can't remember if I pu thtem back in the box the right way or not...

I checked mine and it was ok, now I can sleep tonight without wondering if it was correct... the wife doesn't even question me anymore as I head out to the TT with tools in hand.

You will find some wiring technicians will use electrical tape around the twist on caps to help seal up the open access to wires especially in bath rooms and other steamy places... Positioning them not to capture water is a great idea...
Of course they also make weather proof type twist-on connectors as well...

I too had the wire nuts in the wrong direction. I simply turned them over. How hard would this be to do properly at the factory?

I pick up my 298 Eagle tommarow and this among other things ( AC bolts) I have learned from this forum will be one of the things I take a look at.
Seems to me that a they should use a weather proof box.
Even if you turn the wire nuts facing up the amount of moisture getting in the box will still cause the copper wire to oxidize.
5 bucks for weather proof box and connectors would be an easy fix.
I guess they have to draw the line some where to keep cost down.
Something else I would suggest is some anti oxident paste.Lowes has it in inexpensive small tubes,just take each nut off and squirt a little in and replace.

Thanks also for this tip! I did not know they made these. I'm one of those guys that uses electrical tape stretched around the wire nuts and scraping my knuckles on the sharp electrical box edge
