Montreal Canada - Trip suggestions?
Possible trip (non-camping) to Montreal Canada next Fall. Any suggestions?
- Site-seeing.. not too interested in art galleries, botanical gardens. Enjoy historical area's, history, unique, activities. I see there are bicycle tours, the On/Off bus...
- What is the 'typical' weather around the second week of October?
- What is the best way to get from Quebec to Montreal without renting a car?
Otherwise, not sure if we will book a hotel or a hostel. Thanks in advance

Also, we are thinking of two full days for 'site-seeing'.... so is three nights a good plan?

While the island of Montreal is unique, and fun, you'd be missing out if you didn't hop the train (via rail: http://www.viarail.ca/en) and head to Quebec City for at least a day - preferably two. The Vieux-Port (Old Port) dates to the mid 1700's and is absolutely chock-a-block full of history - it's as close to visiting Europe as you'll get without actually crossing the Atlantic! Montreal, in comparison, is a big, busy young-person's party town (but fun all the same). The train will get you right into the centre of the city. October is getting a bit late in the season - but the tree's will colourfull and the tourists will probably be nearly all gone. October is iffy for weather - could be warm & sunny/could be cold. But anytime in La Belle Provence is a great time!

You might consider going to Ottawa if you have time( Historical ) and a very clean city . We went 10 years ago to Ottawa to see our capital city. It's a 11 hour drive from home. My only regret was not taking the time to go on to see Quebec city. It's not much further . I've heard nothing but great things about it. Maybe some day. Wish i could you help more but maybe others could chime in.

Two deli's are a must - either Ben's or Schwartz's.
Great Montreal smoked beef sandwichs, pickles and slaw!

Quebec City does not really consider itself part of North America. Walking down a St. saw a cannonball stuck in a brick wall.
I hope this doesn't sound rude, but I remember women of all ages looking stunningly European and very gracious and elegant. My wife agrees.

Thanks McMonk... we will be in Quebec for one full day (staying near the Old Port). Not sure if we will take the bus or the train from Quebec to Montreal. Anyone ever travel through and take the ORLÉANS EXPRESS? I haven't priced the train or bus yet, but read elsewhere that the bus is less expensive(?).
We will take Amtrak from Montreal down to Albany (look forward to watching the Fall colors pass by)

Unfortunately, we will won't have enough time to add Ottawa. It will only be Quebec and Montreal on our own this trip

I find the planning part of the trip is the best part next to being there. I enjoy the resurch but its nice to here from people who have already been there. More opinions might come along Healthi

Soooo true! Especially for me. I really love the planning end of any travel experience or opportunity we ultimately wind up taking
