My Poor Mans Zodi Shower

Thought I would share my project for today....kind of proud of it....

My Cub Scouts HATE the cold showers at summer camp (ok, so do I)....they are fed from Arkansas springs....they are cold!!!

So I was our local camping store a while ago and they had a Zodi pump on clearance for $5. It is a small pump, a 4D cell battery pack, and a shower head. It puts out just under 1 GPM...

I had some old copper tubing - I wrapped about 12 turns inside an old coffee can, and then hooked the Zodi pump inline. It made a nice heat exchanger and the old Coleman stove heats the water close to 20 degrees.

If I fill the bucket, then put the shower head in there and recycle the water for about 15-20 minutes, it gets pretty warm and then makes about a 90o shower. I took a 15 gallon chlorine bucket and make it my water source and lasts close to 20 minutes.

Anyway - I dont really need it - but it was a fun project!

Any other suggestions welcome on improvements.

Maybe not as much fun to "put together", but a solar shower is just as good.

I like it for a couple of reasons beyond the obvious - it is dang near impossible to get 8,9, and 10 year olds to take ice cold showers and with all the ticks, bug spray, sun screen - they really need them. Second - I like to show it to the scouts and teach them how/why it works. It is a great project for them to understand how you can build some neat things yourself out of old parts as opposed to going to the fancy camp store and spending hundreds of dollars.

Hopefully it will do its magic! Will know in a couple of days....
