So as of today all govt employees on furlough are getting back-pay.

So basically....it's a paid vacation. The only people losing money and being inconvenienced are the US taxpayers

You could argue that the "essential employees" are losing out too---they still are working and not getting any extra pay while those not working are getting paid to do nothing.

I heard that they were going to be ordered back to work. Let's hope so, so that the "essential" workers (those who are already working for a future paycheck) won't be at a disadvantage.

Its really being felt here on the shore, Assateague National park is closed,(along with its CG), along with the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, both of which are huge tourist attractions here. local private CG`s are reporting cancellations due to the beaches and wildlife sanctuary being closed. NASA Wallops Island is also at a stand still.

I talked to a lady today that works for the Forest Service in Montana. She is furloughed and won't get any back pay until it is all over. The local Senior Center here in Parker will be out of money by Tuesday. That means that the nutrition program and Meals on Wheels will shut down. The rats in DC seem to be attacking old people.

I volunteer at a local food pantry and our "business" is going on as usual because we don't rely on the government for anything. Sometimes I think we would be better off if programs like this were handled locally. Please don't take this wrong, but if you see someone in need, don't wait on the Fed Govt. to step in, do something about it. JMHO

I had a trip booked and ready for Dingman's Campground; had to switch to dry camping at a local State Park. 1st time out w/ my trailer, I really didn't want to dry camp right out of the gate but it is what it is.

I have already sent emails to my congressman and senator, saying that, contrary to what the media is reporting, I am not blaming Republicans for the shutdown and the breakdown in civility. I am not blaming Democrats, either. I AM BLAMING THE ENTIRE BLOODSUCKING CONGRESS FOR THE PROBLEM. And I said that, in my opinion, the only thing that should be shut down is Congressional pay - House and Senate - until they get their act together and get something done. Meanwhile, the only thing in my area that is affecting tourists is closure of Shenandoah NP, which is also negatively affecting bookings at our vacation cottage rental business. But the IRS is still open and accepting tax money . . . . . .

We are in N. Georgia. All the national parks are closed. Some were open until last Sat., but we were told that they were told that they would not be paid for time worked when this is over so they closed up.

There is plenty to do so it has not hurt our trip but it is so stupid to be held hostage by the crooks running the government.

I have been waiting a week for Padre Island National Seashore to open. The day I arrived the park closed.

Many of my friends are changing their plans and business's/people associated with the park are being financially hurt through no fault of their own.

It seems that most towns near a National Park are suffering. Most people that work in the service industry are not well paid and this is really hurting them. I'll bet that Pakistan, Iran, Libya and others that really like us will be getting their money.

Has anyone heard a Congressman or Senator advocating the idea of suspending their salaries until this is over ???? They live like royalty on our dime, constantly remind us of how "hard" they are working for us, and schedule "meetings" with constituents in the middle of a weekday when no working stiff can attend. Yet 99% of incumbents get re-elected. Somebody tell me why this is so ?????

This condition should never be allowed to occur. Just because a group of inept, egotistical idiots cannot perform their job they should not possess the power to cripple our country. The closest to domestic disaster the country should face is congress losing their pay for failure to perform their duties. If it were within my power ALL of them, including Obama, would be fired immediately and replaced. The cost of running these shut down services (particularly the parks) is probably close to the loss of revenue.
