New camping sporting event: BLACK WATER TANK FISHING

BLACK WATER TANK FISHING

Equipment required:

1 - Foot flush potty
1 - Dishpan of soapy water
1 - Steel fork
1 - Steel knife
1 - Magnet
1 - Coat hanger
Duct tape

How to play:

Wash dishes and silver ware in the dishpan with soapy water. When finished washing take the dishpan to the bathroom. Place your foot on the potty dump lever opening the valve. Dump the soapy dish water into the potty. Listen as the fork and knife make their noise as the quickly vanish into the abyss below.

You may verbalize any expletives as you deem appropriate at this point.

Now, straighten out the coat hanger and attach the magnet to it with the duct tape. Retrieve the lost utensils from their watery environment. Re-washing and re-use of the utensils is optional.

It CAN be done. I KNOW this because it happened to me yesterday.

Dumb question, why are you dumping dishwater in the toilet and not outside?

What did you do when you tent camped?

To conserve grey water tank space and it is against park rules.

You should camp in Texas. We don't have crazy rules like that here.

We wash all our dishes outside. It's perfectly legal here, thank goodness.

Why waste a coat hanger? Tie a string to the magnet and drop it down

The string was tried. Did not work as the items did not come to rest straight down. The coat hanger allow some navigation to the side and was able to get them.

Funny story, with a happy ending, except for the poor fork and knife.

That is funny!!! I can totally see it happening. I would have blamed the wife, even if she was not the one that had washed the dishes.

You have a very smart boss! I just hope they weren't her good utensils! We've also dumped the wash water into black tank. We always carry 2 5-gal buckets & do a grey water run (well, our teenage boys do!) to a legal dump area. We have an 86 gal FW tank and grey is only around 37 gal.

Kim, you need to get those boys a 15 gal blue tote with wheels on it.

Actually we do, Russell. In fact, at Brazos Bend SP there are signs that say "no dumping of grey water". I suspect it's true elsewhere too. Like some of the other folks, I dump dishwater into the black tank. It conserves grey water space and helps with cleaning the black tank.

We have one, but they said (depending where they can legally dump grey water) they prefer to take multiple trips with the buckets versus lifting the portable tank and no one ever feels like dragging it up to the waste station via hitch.
