I truly believe today, January 8th, should be a national holiday. Why you may ask? Well today is Elvis’ birthday. Once your laughing subsides, read on.

Yes, Elvis never did any great accomplishments in the political arena, or cured any health problems, or saved children from starvation. You know all those accomplishments society bestows on those that have national holidays on the calendar.

He did, through music, change the world. In the mid-fifties, the greatest generation had survived the depression, had won the war, and settled in to a peaceful life, new house, new car, stay home Mama rearing us baby boomers, then “Rock-an-Roll” hit the scene, and changed the total world. Elvis led that attack. Good or bad, he changed man’s culture and the world’s way of life.

Every week should have at least one national holiday!

But I will except any reason IF I can get work to shutdown for the day. Problem is, only the banks and government will close.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my grandfather did–in his sleep. Not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car.

Now that I am retired I could care less about national holidays.
