No good deed goes unpunished

At one of the most popular parks around here is a resort town called Falcon Lake. It's pretty busy in the summer, and the gas station there -- we've actually been there a few times while camping in the region -- does a booming business year round, from RVers and boaters in the summer to snowmobilers in the winter. There was a local news article recently about an incident there.

Apparently, someone was filling up their car at the gas station when the car caught on fire. Some people who were nearby helped out and popped the car into neutral and pushed it away from the gas pumps. Unfortunately, it got away from them. The car, now well engulfed, hit a trailer that was parked and for sale on the gas station's lot, and they both were now on fire.

The only thing I'd hate more than having to make that call is having to GET that call. "Remember that trailer you had for sale at the gas station...?" "What do you mean, HAD?!?"

I guess that all depends how much MPI offers them for it, certainly saves a bunch of looky-loos, plus they know the cheque is good

Tragedy all the way around. Any word on what caused the car to catch fire?

I guess there are several lessons to be learned here and glad no one was injured.

Note to self: Don't park trailer near gas pumps. Besides, it looks like the front end might still be good. Maybe they can get half price...

It might be interesting to watch the MPI salvage listings to see if it shows up on there. But knowing them, they'll probably say it's repairable, which would be too bad because the guy just wants his money.

No, the little write-up I gave was paraphrased from the news article, and the photo was take by a bystander.

But I can imagine how the guys who pushed the car felt. It would be the mother of all "Oh, sh--" moments. Still, I guess it's better than having the whole gas station go up.
