Johnny, I see you had a 2 year break in service. I had an urge to go back on active duty for a few years after I separated. Didn't act on the urge though. If you don't mind me asking, what made you return to active duty?

Marine Corps

From: 1967 - 1970 MOS- 0311 ( Grunt ) Served in South Vietnam starting May 1968 with 3rd Marine Div. ( 3/3 Mike Co. ) until Dec 1968, Volunteered for and was accepted by the 2nd CAP ( combined action platoon ). Only combat marines from field units were accepted, plus I speak fluent French which helped with communications with South Vietnamese people as the French was there many years before us. I was with MTT2 ( Mobil Training Team -Two ). We trained PF's ( Popular Forces ) in the art of war . They were like the National Guards here in our country. We then assigned them to a cap unit which comprised of 12 Marines & 1 Navy Corpsman. The Caps lived in different villages and operated within sectors, patrolling , ambushes, calling in arty and air support , denying the enemy food and recruitment access to young men, and securing areas of operation. We moved around a lot from different province's and hamlets training the PFs. There were 12 of us training ( as on the job ) taking them out on every aspect they would practice and experience with the CAP Unit. The most fulfilling job I have ever done. Came back to the world after extending my tour of 18 months and mustered out.Out of the 12 of us, only 4 of us remain. We still try to see each other every 2 years or so on reunions. Sorry I went so long on this post. Semper Fi to all who served at home and overseas.
