I just got back from Ft Hood where I had some business meetings. First time I have been there in almost 20 years. Holy cow it's changed as has Killeen and Copperas Cove.

DAD - One of those remaining at age 93. Tech Sgt., US Army, 1942 to end of WWII.
SELF USAR, '66 to '72, 103rd Support Brigade. About 150 officers and 100 enlisted. I recall lots of E8s and 9s, only a handful of captains, two or three Lts, I think, and bunches of majors and LCs, three or four full birds and a Gigadier Beneral. I served in the JAG section. Somehow escaped Nam.
God Bless and watch over our fighting men and women.

I posted my military experience way back on Page 1. However, since others are mentioning other family members in the military, I'd like to add mine.
My dad (also another one of those remaining at age 93) served as an ARMY sergeant in Egypt during WWII. My uncle (my dad's brother) served during that time also.
My maternal grandfather was an ARMY sergeant during WWI. I have his draft notice. It's interesting that the wording on his draft notice is amazingly similar to wording on the draft notice I received in 1972.

I'd also like to add mine. My father joined the Cdn army at the beginning of WW11 in 1939 and was on the first boat to cross the ocean. He was in the Royal 22nd Regt (the Van Doos) an Englishman in a French Regt. He spent the whole war in England (where I was born) and came back in 1946 on the last boat. He was a typewriter mech. so spent his time in HQs around England.
My maternal grandfather retired from the British Army as a Regimental Sergeant Major in the 6th Queens Own Hussars. I have his medals and he was quite the man during WW1. I have a picture of him on a horse as he was cavalry and he looked very impressive.

I mentioned my service earlier. My wife was a food service specialist, she served in places she cannot tell me about (security clearance and all) before she married another Air Force member and had two kids before he left her (lucky me, I got her!) She and I made two more Air Force brats.
My father was in the Marine Corps Reserve as a motor mechanic. One of my sisters served in the Naval Reserve as a blood bank specialist for eight years. My youngest daughter is entering the ROTC program at University of West Florida, going into the medical field as a second lieutenant in the USAF upon graduation. Most of my uncles also served in the Air Force and the Army. My wife's father served in both the Navy and the Army.

27 Years with the Canadian Forces. Recently retired from the active forces and working for the DND 'til official retirement. My Father served with the RCAF for 15 years and My Grandfather(RIP) served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in WW I and WW II. He was wounded in action, although I can't find anymore info on him.

What were you in? I was RCEME for 13 years. Just to let you know that you can contact Veterans Affairs and they will send you a form in which you should be able to get the info on your Grandfather. He was sure lucky during WW1 as not many of that regiment made it home, thanks to Butcher Haig (British General).
