USAF- E5 1959-1966 Ground Heavy Radio 304x2 series - Warner Robins AFB GA (Air traffic Control) - Ramstein/Langerkopf Germany (Heavy Radar site at the Rock) - Little Rock AFB (Titan II Missle Siloes Radio Comms)...
Germany was fun times working at the Langerkopf Radar site and then we would get pulled off to do some road running fixing Radio things all over Europe for portable control towers and North Africa with the Twilite SSB radio/relay setups (All of our 6X trucks had the Road Runner symbol on them).- R&R'd air to ground radios for Frances Powers (Never got to meet him however)- Even got to run with Air America in their H-19s a couple of times to places unknown installing radar transponders along the rivers to get the hueys out of harms way in a hurry (rain or shine)-

My most famous time was I got to talk to Gen LeMay or rather he got to talk to me - Was setting squelch controls for the Air traffic comms at the Langerkopf Main Europe radar control so I am going down all the channels punching in and sayng "This is LOGROLL test one-two-three" Then this voice comes back "This is LeMay get the @#$%^^& off my frequency" which I did right away of course... I ran over to ops and captured the tape recording which I still have around here somewhere hehe...

When I got out of the AF I served with DOD contractors for the Space Surveillance system across the bottom part of the US and eventually ended up as DOD Civil Service at Dahlgren VA responsible for all of the high powered transmitter electronics for the Space Detection system for over 30 years. I retired as a GS12 with over 40 years of combined Military and DOD Civil service time... Spent many nights in a Holiday Inn Select hotel in many states... I'm really smart now... Got to run many of these roads in my OFF-ROAD POPUP as well which was neat. When you would see my Virginia tags on my OFF-ROAD POPUP in the Wichita Mtns in OK everyone would say "How did that guy get here from VA". There I sit under my POPUP awning drinking fresh made good ole bean coffee poking a big camp fire with a big smile on my face...

I met retired 5 Star General Omar N. Bradley. One of only four 5 Star Generals in the history of the Army.
He toured our unit one day in a wheel chair. I didn't know who he was, but my father certainly knew who he was :-)

Wow, that`s cool meeting Bradley. Ever read his book? "A Soldiers Story". Goes into great detail about his dealings with Patton, Monty, Ike and others.

We're both Navy (U.S.) vets. DH retired back in 1993...seems hard to believe it's been nearly 20 years since that event!
