Pita

My wife drives a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus v-6 that is in excellent shape with low mileage (or Kms). On June 14th 2011 she went shopping with her sister to buy bedding out plants at a local garden center. I was at home when I received a phone call from State Farm insurance who stated that I had been involved in a hit and run accident (car and insurance in my name) and I must report to a police office and make a report.

When my wife got home I asked her about it and she was in shock and stated she had hit nothing. I went out and confirmed that there was no damage to the car and reported this to State Farm and told them to have someone attend my place and confirm my findings and I would not be attending any police office to make a report ( I am a retired police officer so know the rules).

An investigator attended my place the and took numerous pictures the following morning and confirmed to me that there was no damage to our car and from what he said there may have been severe damage to the other car and not to worry about it.

I received a phone call about two weeks later from State Farm and after talking to them I thought this was the end of it.

Yesterday afternoon I received a call from my insurance company, telling me the same old story and the other party had filed a police report and I would have to do the same although I had never been contacted and this is almost one year after this alleged incident.

My suspicion is that the so called eye witness could have been the culprit and tried to avoid suspicion by giving out my wife's license number or the owner of the other car was trying to commit a fraud for a previous accident.

I asked if there were paint traces on the other car but my insurance company did not know.

This should be fun and as I have nothing better to do I will be over this like bees on honey and someone will have to answer for this.

Sorry for the long rant!!!!!

Yes keep us updated. I was in an accident and then two different times I ran toll booths that I was 500 miles away from. Although its was easier to get out of than what you are experiencing.

Sorry to hear about this experience. Family members of mine have had similar bizarre ones. It makes you mad that things like this happen and mess up your records when it is clear someone just made an error in a wrong number somewhere and then you don't even get an apology after for the stress they put you through. Hope you get it sorted out and i hope they have to make up for the mistake!

Also have to ask, why is this thread called "pita"? Thought I was getting a recipe

I thought I had put capital letters on it and didn't think I could get away with putting the whole saying as I typed it. I too like pita bread.

At first glance I thought the title said PETA. Thank goodness it wasn't about People Eating Tasty Animals. :lizard:

You are right, AG. I tried to rename the thread to PITA and the system forces it back to initial cap only.

This is a weird situation.. how come the police don't come and find you if they think you are responsible for a hit and run accident?

I guess it is not done that way any more, besides it is classed as a minor hit and run and we never went out to them other than to tell the victim to go to a police office and make out a accident report.

I contacted my insurance company the other day to get an update but they can't seem to contact this so called independent witness, but they did have her statement that says the offending vehicle was off-white. Our vehicle is gold so have no idea if this is even the correct vehicle. If I hear any more I will post the results.
