Well, I hope I don't catch any grief for this, but...

One of my rattlesnakes was out again today, sunning him/her self. Since I've never heard one rattle in real life, I made the wise (?) decision of gently prodding it with a stick to see if I could get it to shake its tail. It certainly did rattle, and it reared back its big head and looked at me. Then it casually slid back into its culvert, rattling its tail all the way in.

I had a camera in one hand and the stick in another. After I nudged it, I got so excited I forgot to take a picture of it in action. However, I did get a picture of it before I disturbed it, and got a "head shot" this time. I'll post it later.

Dude, seriously, what? Not a good move, they can strike a long way.

Exactly.....haven't we humans caused enough damage to wildlife....we complain about the snakes and when the snake population is depleted, then we'll complain about the rodent population. When you're out in the nature in spring, expect to see snakes.....carry a snake stick with you and flip them out of the way.

Don't be ticking off the snakes, we are going to be there in 2 weeks and we don't need no mad snakes.

I tell you I'd have a real hard time leaving them be 20' from my camper when I have 2 toddlers running around. That being said I'd definitely talk to local authorities/ park rangers in hopes of relocating them or getting some insight.

I actually saw two snakes today. One, I think, was a garter snake of some kind. And then my friendly rattlesnake, of course. And I had a looonnng stick!

OK. No more. I left Banks Lake today anyway. I was afraid the snakes would find a way into my Jayco. LOL

I think you are right SmokerBill - the one looks like a Western Terrestrial Garter Snake --> http://www.bentler.us/eastern-washin...ter-snake.aspx

We've been contemplating a trip over to Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park - maybe we'll wait a bit......
