Reality check

Sign I saw at a campground out west. “we have no WiFi,cell coverage or cable. Relax read a book or just sit back and talk to each other. If a emergency comes up just knock on my door or dail 911 on the pay phone right here.”

That's my kind of campground. Most of my favorites are just like that!

We go to a campground in Windser NY every year that is like that. It's my favorite camping weekend hands down. I think it is good for all of us to disconnect from technology and just camp once in a while.

I might add: "And reconnect with each other!"

It might force people to actually walk around the campground to meet and talk to some new people.

I have to agree with many here. That is my type of campground. Going camping and disconnecting from the world is what true relaxing is all about. Whenever we go we have such a good time. Talking, playing board or card games. meeting other campers.

Also a prime reason we like to boondock and really get away from it all. To us, if you can't go without all the electronic connections, and full hookups, then it just isn't really camping.

We frequently boondock etc. without phone or any kind of TV. Also, we were camp hosts all summer a couple of years ago without any phone or any TV... just the way we like it. No angst.

That's one of my favorite things about my dad's deer lease. I get absolutely zero cell coverage out there. It's SO relaxing!

A couple years ago we were sitting around our campfire just relaxing and taking it in. I glanced over at the next site and the entire family was sitting around their fire too. But they each had a device in their face. It was 5 or 6 glowing faces around a beautiful camp fire. I just had to shake my head.

But to each their own. That's how some people like to roll. Who am I to judge?

Just to be "Devil's Advocate"....

Consider that there may be some people who simply have to be reachable, in case of a crisis. (My boss keeps telling me that I'm one of them, but I disagree)

If it were not for mobile communications and/or WiFi, those people would be unable to enjoy camping at all, so, for them, it's a blessing.

Personally, i've gone to ridiculous lengths to keep our TT "on the air", because I'm a shameless geek..... but all we actually do with all this gee-whizzery, is maybe check the weather, listen to peaceful music, or maybe download a book to read.
It enhances our enjoyment of the peace.

I am not ashamed of getting soft as I get older. I have nothing to prove by not boon docking or tenting anymore, been there, done that. We like our modern conveniences. It's why we have a trailer. I used be very anti-tv while camping, but now I enjoy watching a move when we go to bed. I enjoy reading especially when camping or traveling in general, but I have moved from printed books to ebooks. On the other hand we are not constantly on or playing with our phones or tablets. Nor do we sit inside and watch TV, unless it's pouring buckets. And if it's fall and there is a Packer game on, we take the TV outside.

There are those who would look down on any trailer at all, if it's not a tent then it's not camping. It's all about one's perspective.
