$2.85 in Southern Mn, but I am sure this will only last a week or two and then the prices will sky rocket due to refinery maintenance, switching to a winter blend fuel or some other reason. I would be shocked if this trend continues for a month.

There is an app for your phone called Gas Buddy that is updated continually with fuel prices in any given area. It separates gas from diesel prices.

Filled up today for 298.9, later saw it for 295.9 so we are below the psychologically important 3.00 barrier here.

2.74/gallon on Hwy 90, MLK exit in S. San Antonio. Didn't stop to see the diesel prices or if they even have diesel but that has been the lowest price on gas I've seen in years!

Pass by there everyday on the way to work/home and that station has always had the lowest gas prices around here...though I never stop since it's on the way to work or on the way home and I buy most times from the local stores when out getting things.

I have never understood why diesel prices are generally higher than gasoline prices. Isn't diesel a cast off byproduct of refining gasoline? Is it because diesel requires an additional step in it's production vs. gasoline? Or, does it?

Anyway, diesel in middle TN has been averaging me close to $3.75 / gallon while gasoline seems to be closer to $3.30 / gallon. I'm not complaining about these prices but just wonder why diesel isn't closer to gasoline's price.

Why does the industry hang on to this ridiculous 9/10 cent? Back when gas was 19 9/10 cents/gallon it was significant. Today it is just an archaic corporate mentality. I have serious doubts the pumps are accurate to .3 %! Gimme a break!

Well they could round it up to the next penny, instead of 2.999 just make it 3.00

My point was they may as well advertise it as $3.00 and not $2.999. They are getting (stealing) the penny anyway....the pump cannot hold an accuracy of .3%. What is the point in keeping all the pumps, signage burdened with this 9/10? It's STUPID!

Another perception is the oil companies think you are too ignorant to realize that $2.99 9/10 is just 1/10 of a cent less than $3.00.

Same as advertising a sofa for $1,999.99. The retailer believes you are to dumb to understand that is really $2,000.00. Add tax and it is even more.

I have often wondered.....if nines were removed from our numbering system would all commerce cease??

Deceptive advertising.........but that is the way marketing is!

I worked in retail for years when I was younger and the reason for the .99 is it works. Advertise something for $1.99 vs $2.00 and to the customer it's a dollar something vs two dollars and something.

If one station has gas for $3.499 and the one next door has $3.50 people will go will go for the 3.499.

I agree it's silly but the customer is always right even if they're not great at math.
