The sales tax rate of 6% for Pennsylvania is correct except for the counties of Allegheny (Pittsburgh) and Philadelphia where it is 7%.

It should also be noted that in Pennsylvania there's no state sales tax on clothing and food items. However, there are some exceptions. For example, prepared food (food purchased in a restaurant) is taxable and so are soft drinks purchased in stores.

In Ontario it is 13%. That is 8% for the Provincial Government and 5% for the Federal Government.

If an when I go south I stock up in Montana with Nil sales tax. Our sales tax in Alberta is the 5% that the feds put on everything. I heard that parts of Arizona have higher sales tax than was quoted here

Montana and Oregon are two states close to us. When making a major purchase other than trailers or vehicles we make every attempt to get stuff there. We also go to Washington to buy food as it is exempt.

To me the tax on food is cruel and punishes the poorest people in the state.

We live 13 miles from Delaware so when we need a high price item we go there.

All sales tax is immoral if you also pay income tax... Here I pay 33% income tax and 10% sales tax.. so my effective tax rate is 43% and I am lower middle class.
