Scary, Weird, Bizzar Camping Experiences Camping

We've all had weird things happen while in the great outdoors.
So let's shair our sometimes bizzar, entertaining, unforgetable, encounters.

Way way way back, I was young. Not sure how young. Say 12ish. 40 or 44 years ago.
We were camping in the Smokey Mountans. Camper with very minimum of amenities.
My dad wanted to see the Moon Bow. Only two places to see it and we were near one. Near ??? Not that close.
So my dad, my brother and I started walking to see this fabulise site, just before sundown.
As we walked a park worker stopped and gave us a ride. He said "It's just over there" and drove for 15 minutes, Fast.
We got to the site and stood around with maybe 10 other folks, waiting and waiting. OH it's overcast. No moon bow.
So we started walking back to our camp site.
We walked and we walked. And walked. It was pitch black but there were lights on the road. So we walked. And walked.
As we're walking, you get that feeling theres something behind you, you should look at.
So we all turned to see the lights behind us were being switched off.
One after an other. And they were catching up with us.
We started walking faster. The blackness was catching up.
We started to run because the lights were going out right next to us.
Then we could see the light ahead went out.
We were slowly being swallowed by the totel darkness you only find in horror movies.
We are close to panic. There are bears out there. Giant man eatting bears. Mutant Bears. Horror movie bears.
There was a light up ahead, maybe 100 yards away. At a junktion with the main road.
We ran as fast as we could.
Just as we got to the junktion the light went out.
We're DOOMED.
A car stopped next to us in the dark. Turned out to be the folks camping next to us.
They went into town to get some things and just happened to get back in time to save us from becoming bear snaks.
Took us back to our happy camper site.:jester:
No bear food from us.

Many decades ago, my wife and I were on our first camping trip together. We had a Sears cabin tent, a Coleman stove and lantern, sleeping bags and an ice chest. We went to the Lincoln National Forest, home of Smoky Bear - and signed with many bear warnings.

We camped off a forest service dirt road, far from the main road and any other humans. We set our camp up and were starting to make some supper. We heard a rustle in the woods and some animal sound; we stopped everything and got quiet. No noise. And then another rustle in the darkening woods and a sort of animal snuffle sound. We get concerned. The woods are quiet again, and I walk to the edge of the clearing near where the sound was. My heart is thumping at greater than normal rate.

And then I see some brown fur moving. Oh "drat" I say, I'm dead. The animal opens its dreaded mouth and moos!

Not dead, just stupid.
