The state park where I am hosting right now built two new bathhouses somewhere between 2002 and 2004. There is no one still here that knows for sure, but Google Earth's satellite photos do. Anyway, a new sewer system was installed about the same time and one of the old bathhouses was demolished and the site converted into 2 host sites with sewer hookup. The current park management assumed the 2 new host sites were hooked up to the new sewer system.

This past Saturday afternoon I was parking my utility trailer in it's usual spot and when pulling away with my TV I felt a bump that wasn't supposed to be there. It seems my left rear TV tire had found and broke through one of the lids to the old septic tank that park staff didn't even know was there. These two host sites were just plumbed into old septic and everyone forgot about it. This tank hasn't been pumped at least back to 2002, but it was designed to handle a complete bathhouse so it is a big one and was in bad need of pumping. When the septic guy got here it said it was the largest one he had ever seen and the total pump out volume was 5,800 gallons. I don't think the other site and me will have any problems with this size septic tank. Park management thanked me for finding it since it was close to overflowing and they didn't want any EPA issues.

Years back, my wife and I came home from church and the front end of my FIL's car was in our septic tank. He was washing his car and pulled over it.
