Spare tire mount/location.

Good evening All,

DW and I have finally booked a trip to the Keys in August! At just over 800 miles one way, this will be our longest trip to date. With just over 10,000 miles on my original tires, I think it’s time to replace them. We’ll also be looking to get a spare, or two. With any luck, OKC next year for the WCWS, then YELLOWSTONE in 2022. We’re definitely going to be stretching these trips out further and further so we’ll want the piece-of-mind off having a spare(s) when we set out.

Having said that, trying to figure out where to mount the spare(s). Bumper will be reserved for generator and/or bike rack. Thinking of A-Frame under propane tanks or BAL mount between beams but haven’t heard great reviews on it.

So, what are some options you all have seen or used?

tia, shrp

Would you have room in the truck box? If not laying flat, (and I'm dating myself here) you can get a tire mount that bolts to the inside of the box, keeping the tire upright, usually just in front of the wheel well. Pickups from the 1940's, '50's, and '60's used to mount them there sometimes. My other thoughts aren't as aerodynamic.

Be vewwy, vewwy careful about mounting stuff on the bumper.

I don't know about yours, but most are not rated for any kind of serious load.
According to Jayco, our TT bumper can only hold 100 pounds...

No bumper on our 2020 Eagle 334 rlok! Had to add a hose carrier for my sewer hose! The receiver hitch, where the bumper used to be, should be rated to 300 lbs.

My old Trailmanor came with one from the factory. When the first tire blew out I found the wheel heavily rusted and so was the mount. A pain to get it in and out and you have to have the whole thing up in the air a ways to get the clearance. I hated it! If you can put it in the truck, do so.

Yeah, I checked into that a good bit. Mine has the hitch that is mounted to the frame. I've have my 3500 generator riding on it everywhere we go for about 2 years now and still check welds, etc. after just about every trip. Probably won't carry the 4 bikes AND the generator at the same time for any real distance but believe it could handle it if I did.

Appreciate the heads-up.
